In an issue of this newsletter last summer, we first told you about Evelyn, our sponsored child. Evelyn lives with her family in an impoverished community in the mountains of Guatemala.
Last year, we learned that she had vision problems. Surgery was called for. Her family could not afford the costs. Thanks to all of your prayers – and the generous donations of several of our readers – we were able to supply the funds necessary for treatment.
We had hoped to learn the outcome months ago. But there were delays in starting the treatment, then further delays in international communication. Just last week we learned the treatment was successful! After her treatment, Evelyn wrote, “Thank God I have been doing well with glasses.”
She sent along two pictures with her new glasses (see below). The one showing her in a school uniform is especially satisfying to see. “I am in 8th grade,” Evelyn writes, “and God willing, next year I am going to be in 9th grade.” Many poor children in Guatemala drop out of school years earlier; their families cannot afford the cost.
We thank all of you for helping us make a difference in Evelyn’s life. In the video below, you can learn more about Unbound, the charity through which we sponsor her.
