Library of Things

The Newburgh Free Libarary "Library of Things" launched on July 29th, 2022.  The “Library of Things,” will go beyond traditional public library services and offer patrons the opportunity to borrow select items they may need to use for a brief period of time or more expensive items to try out before making a major purchase. The family pictured above has already checked out a PS4 and a paper shredder from the new collection.

“For quite some time now, libraries have had to evolve and grow with the times. No longer a place where patrons can get ‘just books,’ libraries have become a place where community members can access the internet, get help with a job search and take a variety of classes to learn and grow at little to no cost,” said Theresa Zacek, Assistant Director at the Newburgh Free Library. Spearheading this effort is Emerging Technologies Librarian Sue Scott, who said, “We are proud of this next evolution in the services we provide to offer our patrons and encourage everyone to take advantage of this latest opportunity.”

We want to hear any thoughts, ideas, and concerns that you, our valued patrons, have about possible new locations for the Branch Library.

Your answers to this survey will inform our decision-making during this period of transition.

Get Produce & Flowers at the Library  Summer Thursdays

Current and former scholars from Newburgh Free Academy and Land to Learn are providing the community with healthy and delicious vegetables from the "Our Core" community garden located in front of the Dutch Reformed Church. The students were stationed in the courtyard of the Newburgh Free Library . Their table was filled with the harvest as well as fresh flowers. Christine Hutchinson and his scholars, as part of The Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative (NUFFI), along with Kubrat Ogunleye and Sam Adels of Land to Learn, have been working to maintain the community garden which provides fresh, local produce to the Newburgh community.

The Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative and Land to Learn teams will be stationed in front of the Newburgh Free Library every Thursday, 11:30AM - 1:00PM throughout the summer with fresh produce for families of the Newburgh community to bring home and enjoy.
