Newly Added June Tours
Just added to the catalog and now open for registration, these upcoming tours are both slated for this month:
Walking Tour: Genesis: The Beginning of Creativity, a Contemporary Art Exhibition at Riverside Church
Creation narratives are sacred to all three Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). They serve as a shared cultural heritage as well as foundational literary texts in much of the world. Creation narratives in the Book of Genesis 1-4, the Gospel of John 1-3, and relevant surahs of the Holy Quran demonstrate not only how the world was conceived but how human creativity itself is a generative core of creation. Explore how contemporary artists respond to this theme.
Tour Guide: SHILPI CHANDRA is an art historian, curator and writer specializing in contemporary art of Asia. She has curated several exhibitions on contemporary art and artists at the Katonah Museum of Art. She received a BA in Art History and Economics from Swarthmore College, an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art, Criticism and Theory from SUNY Purchase College, and an MBA from Columbia University. Her writings appear regularly on her blog, asianyart.wordpress.com.

Walking Tour: Gego: Measuring Infinity and Sarah Sze: Timelapse at the Guggenheim
Explore line, space, and three-dimensionality at the Guggenheim via two wonderful exhibits, both running from March 31, 2023 through September 10, 2023. Gego: Measuring Infinity is a chronological and thematic survey of nearly 200 sculptures, drawings, prints, textiles, and other works of the German-Venezuelan artist Gertrud Goldschmidt (1912-1994), known for her organic forms, linear structures, and systematic spatial investigations. Sarah Sze: Timelapse blurs the boundaries between various mediums including painting, sculpture, sound, print, drawing, video, and architecture through a series of site-specific installations by Sze (b. 1969) that weave a trail of discovery through multiple indoor and exterior spaces of the Guggenheim’s iconic Frank Lloyd Wright building.
Tour Guide: RIVA BLUMENFELD is an art educator at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum, focusing on school, family and access groups for 14 years. Besides the museums, Blumenfeld conducts art tours for groups. Previously she owned a gallery in Soho that specialized in contemporary American art.
