October is National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM)-a coast-to-coast collective recognition of the importance of culture in America. NAHM was launched by Americans for the Arts 30 years ago as National Arts Week in honor of the twentieth anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1993, it was reestablished by Americans for the Arts and national arts partners as a month-long celebration. More information here.

SHARE YOUR EXPERTISE! SEEKING GRANTS PANELISTS FOR CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL
The 2018 grant cycle is beginning at California Arts Council, and they have issued an open call for experts in all areas of the arts to serve on this year's grants panels. Panelists review grant proposals and work samples submitted by applicants to the arts council's various grants programs. "Historically, Orange County has been at a serious disadvantage in competing for CAC grants for a variety of reasons that include a lack of basic knowledge about our community," says ArtsOC President & CEO Rick Stein. "One of the best ways to remedy this is for more OC arts leaders, scholars and practitioners to become part of the judging process." More information about applying to become a grants panelist may be found here. The current list of approved grants panelists includes only 5 names from Orange County!
CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL WILL MEET HERE IN JANUARY
SAVE THE DATE! The California Arts Council will hold its January 25, 2018 meeting in Orange County. The meeting will be held at OC Music & Dance, the new building in Irvine that also houses Arts Orange County and Pacific Symphony. During the meeting, the Council will conduct its regular business, which typically includes grant award approvals, reports on its programs and services, and sharing of research on the arts. There will be a Public Comment period, and ArtsOC encourages arts leaders to make an appearance to welcome the Council to Orange County, share a few words about your organization, and express your thoughts about how the Council can better serve our community.
More details will appear in the January ArtsOC newsletter, but Council meeting dates and agendas are always posted in advance
