63rd Annual Denbigh Day Parade and Festival Takes Place Saturday 

City partners with Denbigh Lions Club to host the oldest continuously held event in Newport News

Celebrate unique Newport News neighborhoods, residents, and community organizations during the 63rd Annual Denbigh Day Parade and Festival this Saturday, Sept. 16. The city is partnering with the Denbigh Lions Club to host a day of family fun and entertainment for guests of all ages.

 

The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Denbigh High School (259 Denbigh Boulevard) and features more than 60 parade units and 1,200 participants! The parade route spans approximately one mile down Denbigh Boulevard and Old Courthouse Way, passing by the viewing stand and festival grounds at Courthouse Way Community Center (14302 Old Courthouse Way), and culminating at Sherwood Shopping Center (13771 Warwick Boulevard).

 

The Denbigh Day Festival will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Courthouse Way Community Center (14302 Old Courthouse Way). Festival activities include live music, games, inflatables, educational displays, photo ops, arts & crafts vendors, pony rides, bungee jump, amusements, food vendors, and more!

 

The Denbigh Day Parade and Festival is free and open to the public. Festival parking is available at the Denbigh-Warwick Shopping Center. For more information about the parade route and festival, visit nnparksandrec.org.

Register Now for the Sister Cities Golf Tournament

Sister Cities of Newport News (SCNN) is holding the 13th Annual International Golf Classic: The Eric Chen Memorial Tournament on Friday, October 6 at Kiln Creek Golf Club & Resort, 1003 Brick Kiln Boulevard. Named in honor of longtime Sister Cities supporter Eric Chen, the tournament serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization. 

 

In keeping with SCNN's international reach, each hole features the flag of a different nation and is sponsored by members of the local business community. The cost is $125 per player and various sponsorship opportunities are still available. The tournament has a 9 a.m. shotgun start with a four-person Captain's Choice format. Complimentary coffee, juice, snacks, and water are in each cart, and drink tickets and a buffet lunch are included with registration. The event also includes putting and hole-in-one contests, as well as cash prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, and first and second place finishers in three flights.
