Spiritual Theme: Stand Firm: Put on the Full Armor of God

October: The Strategy

October Theme Song: Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus PH #559

October Theme Verse: Ephesians 6:13-17 "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Friendly Reminder:

If you inform your child's teacher about picking up your child early or arriving late, please also notify the office. This helps the office staff know who to expect during the day. You can include us in your email at office@occhristian.pvt.k12.ia.us or call us at 737-2274.

NICSTO Donations:

Northwest Iowa Christian School Tuition Organization (NICSTO) is receiving contributions to provide tuition assistance to those who qualify. Anyone who contributes will receive a 75% tax credit up to the total amount of Iowa income tax that he/she pays. For example, if you donate $2,000 to NICSTO, your state income tax liability will be reduced by $1500 while NICSTO uses your contribution to help qualified students attend a Christian school.

We use these funds to bridge some of the gap between ESAs and tuition. We also use these funds to help families (for instance a pastor family who moves into the area) who apply to our school after the ESA deadline. What a privilege to be able to use some of our state tax dollars for non-public education!

Our school still needs close to $235,000 before the end of the year. You may also donate non-cash items such as grain, stocks and securities. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Van Velzen at 712-348-6106 (NICSTO Treasurer) or Mr. Alons at 737-2274 or stop by the school office. The donation forms are also available on the school website under "Donate Now", "Support Us", then "NICSTO Contribution Form.

Archery Updates:

Archery Introduction Night: Join us on Tuesday, October 22, at 7:00 PM in the gym for an archery demonstration showcasing our program. All kids and parents in grades 4-8 are invited to attend. A sign-up sheet will be available for those interested in joining the program.

First Archery Practice: The first practice will take place on Tuesday, November 5, at 7:00 PM in the gym.

Appropriate Clothing for the Weather:

As the weather changes, please remember to dress your child accordingly. We will have outdoor recesses in the morning and afternoon and the temperature changes quite a bit during a fall day so we encourage children to dress in layers and be prepared. Shorts are permitted until the end of October.

Once it snows, snow pants are required for younger students in grades K-5, but snow pants can be worn to keep your child warm even without snow. All students must have appropriate snow boots. Boots are required when the “Boot Sign” is posted by the janitor’s closet. If the temps are in the 50’s students are required to wear long sleeves, 60’s short sleeves. If the temps are below 50, students are required to have an extra layer to wear. Remember that the temps forecasted for the day are not the temps at our morning recess time. Please make sure your child comes with appropriate layers.
