AMERICA AT 250: THE FOUNDERS’ ANSWER TO HATEFUL SPEECH
As America approaches its 250th birthday, Rabbi Falick reflects on one of the nation’s most difficult and important freedoms: freedom of speech. Using Britain’s recent ban on controversial political commentators Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur as a starting point, he explores why the Founders believed hateful and dangerous ideas should be confronted openly rather than suppressed by government power — and why “more speech, not enforced silence” remains one of the great strengths of American democracy.

In Hebrew, Kesher means Connection — and that is the purpose of a wonderful new committee we are forming at CHJ.
Our new Kesher Committee—chaired by Sarah Markowitz—will help our congregation stay connected through life’s simchas (joys) and tsuris (troubles) ... celebrations, illnesses, losses, recoveries, milestones, and difficult moments.
If you are interested in volunteering ...
please contact Sarah at: 1Luciannn1@comcast.net
or the CHJ staff at: office@chj-detroit.org.
And as we get underway ... please let Sarah know if you or another congregant could use a phone call, card, meal, visit, or any other gesture of support.
LET'S KEEP CHJ CONNECTED!

HEAR US BETTER!
Ask for a "TELECOIL" in your new hearing aids!
If you are considering new hearing aids, be sure to choose models equipped with a TELECOIL which allows seamless use of the hearing loop in our building.
You may also want to look for Auracast-compatible devices, as we hope to introduce this newer technology in the near future.
For more information, please contact Audrey Pleasant: audreypleasant@gmail.com.
| | SOUPER SUPPER COOKBOOKS ON SALE! | | |
We are continuing to collect food and other needed items (e.g. diapers--especially large sized, feminine hygiene items, cleaning products, toiletries) for local charities. When you come to our building for an activity or are just in the neighborhood, you can drop some off.
To learn of additional efforts—current and planned—contact Audrey or come to an SJC meeting. All are invited.
