▶︎ RABBI FALICK WILL SPEAK:

"PROGRESS, PERIL, AND THE FUTURE OF SECULAR DEMOCRACY"

Prompted by an essay by noted Jewish humanist Prof. Steven Pinker, Rabbi Falick will examine the goals of those working to roll back the hard-won advances of modern life.

Along the way, he'll argue that our the Enlightenment values and secular democracy that lie at the foundation of our nation remain essential to safeguarding this progress.

Join us for a look at the forces now reshaping our future—and what they mean for Americans, Jews (and Humanistic Jews) at this critical moment.

▶︎ RABBI FALICK WILL SPEAK:

"FROM REVOLT TO FESTIVAL OF LIGHT"

As we light the sixth candle of Chanukah, Rabbi Falick will talk about some Chanukah history. It didn’t begin with a miracle of oil!

Its origins lie in an important revolt, a rededicated Temple, the trauma of later Jewish uprisings, and the Rabbis’ desire to shift the holiday’s message.

Explore the surprising history of the holiday, including one surprising Talmudic tale of how some Rabbis gave Adam (that first one) credit for celebrating the winter solstice.
