Simply Share New Monthly Meetup Sun Jan 23 @ 3 pm

Simply Living members are a diverse community. We share values about living mindfully with each other and with nature.

Simply Share is being launched as a way to check in with each other and learn what we're thinking, reading, watching - creating a time to share our favorite podcasts, recommend a TED Talk, or tell us what is changing in your life, neighborhood, and priorities. As networkers put it, "All of us are smarter than any of us," and that's why we share!

We're starting on Zoom but may switch to in person or hybrid in the future. It's free for members. Register here. Not a member? Join here.

Tree of the Month:
Oak (Quercus sp)
Oaks, the trees of the genus Quercus, are among the most important hardwood trees. There are approximately 500 species of oaks worldwide and a little under 100 in the United States, but they are found primarily in the northern hemisphere. Oaks provide a huge percentage of the edible mast for wildlife, and of course oak is tremendously useful as lumber. They are among the longest lived trees and can survive for four or five centuries in favorable conditions.

Sunday, January 9, 2021, 3:00 PM. Voices from the Holy Land Online Film Salon: "Gaza: Still Alive." When you think of Gaza, you may think of war and destroyed buildings, of economic hardships, the strangling siege, the high unemployment rate, the poverty and deprivation—but less often do we see the deprivation that is the invisible, unmet needs for psychological support for a population so in need of it. One wonders what is the effect on a Palestinian child’s mind to hold the idea that they’re living in ‘imprisonment’ while the rest of the world’s kids live in freedom. Gaza: Still Alive is not full of images of war planes, bomb craters or other war footage. Rather, the film asks: how has a decade of siege affected people there? How has this affected their mental health and why? And what does this bode for the future? It focuses on the scars and craters inside the ordinary Gazan’s mind. Register now and join us on January 9 at 3:00 PM Eastern for a discussion of the film with psychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr. Samah Jabr, head of the Mental Health Unit of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and independent journalist and filmmaker Harry Fear. Our moderator will be Dr. Elizabeth Berger, child psychiatrist and founding/steering committee member of the USA-Palestine Mental Health Network. Register here to receive the zoom link for January 9 and a link to watch the film.
