News & Events November/December 2020

Hello to all of our members, staff and friends,

It is my sincere hope that this newsletter finds you healthy and well during this difficult public health challenge. The Board of Directors has been diligent in setting policy and protocol to protect those who enter the theatre. We're still putting final touches on the inside of the building, making sure it's perfect for when we are finally able to have gatherings.

We will be participating in Giving Tuesday again this year. As you may imagine, this year your generosity is more crucial than ever. Live theatre is last on the COVID-19 Roadmap to Recovery list, and there is no way of knowing when that will be.

I am pleased to announce that we will be presenting a Christmas show this year. ’Tis the Season, a variety show, will highlight songs and dance numbers that reflect the Christmas spirit we all enjoy during the holiday season. The show features all local talent, from the emcee to vocalists, dancers, stage production staff, producer and director. And the great news is that you will be able to watch it at home. The Riverfront board of directors wish to thank Paul and Carol Robeson for all of the hard work they have contributed to Riverfront Playhouse. They were there for the establishment and formation of the theatre back in 1981. Paul served as Theatre Manager and mentor to the all volunteer staff. Carol has served on the board for all those years until her recent resignation prior to their moving to Texas to be near family. We wish them well and want them to take with them our fondest wishes and gratitude for all they have done.

As Redding's Finest performers present a night full of holiday cheer, Spenser continues to try to derail the show and present A Christmas Carol starring himself. The master of ceremonies, Rashod, blocks him at every turn. Will Rashod be able to keep the show on track? Or will Spenser end up with his dream of being in a Christmas Carol? Tis the Season, presented by Riverfront Playhouse, features singing, dancing, comedy, love and a whole lot of holiday cheer. A fun-filled show to be enjoyed by the entire family.

We are incredibly grateful to the north state for the support given to Riverfront Playhouse through the years. Updated and improved light and sound equipment, costumes, sets, and production rights are just some of the things made possible through North State Giving Tuesday donations. This has allowed Riverfront Playhouse to share quality live theatre with the community and move closer to our goal of a new theatre downtown.

Now the new theatre at 1950 California Street is complete. It is beautiful and we are very excited to show it off to the community. But then the effects of COVID-19 were dramatic and stopped all of us in our tracks. Riverfront Playhouse postponed opening the 2020 season 3 times before making the difficult decision to cancel the season entirely. It has been a challenge to have this wonderful addition of a new theatre in downtown Redding and to be unable to open the doors and share with our community.

North State Giving Tuesday donations in 2020 will help see Riverfront Playhouse through these difficult times with regular monthly expenses and perhaps make possible the purchase of still-needed equipment such as technical gear for streaming performances we are embarking on.

Starting Tuesday, November 17^th, early giving opens! And new this year for Giving Tuesday is that donors no longer must create accounts.
