OCTOBER 2024 NEWS & EVENTS

From our President

Stamford Youth Voice Policy Workshop

We were thrilled to host local students at the Boys & girl Club for an engaging workshop focued on civic engagement and youth advocacy. The event offered students a unique opportunity to learn about shaping policies that impact their education and community. Gabriella Coke, Stamford Board of Education member; Dr. Tamu Lucero, Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools; and Chris Soules, Chief Compliance Officer for SPS, shared valuable insights on how students can actively influence school policies and have their voices heard. Through meaningful dialogue and hands-on activities, students explored ways to engage with decision-makers, making the first step toward becoming empowered advocates for positive change. We look forward to seeing these young leaders drive impactful initiatives in our community!

HISPANIC HERITAGE

GAME NIGHT

Our school coordinators, Leticia and Shawn, recently hosted a lively Hispanic Game Night at Rippowam and Dolan Middle School, bringing students, families, and stuff together for an evening of fun and connection. The event featured traditional Hispanic games, fostering cultural appreciation while creating a welcoming space for community bonding.

Beyond the games, the event fostered community bonding by creating a warm, inclusive space where families and school staff could connect, strengthen relationships, and celebrate diversity. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the night a success! Events like these highlight the importance of cultural appreciation and unity within our schools, helping us build a more connected Stamford Community. The Childcare Incubator model focuses on providing a solution for issues surrounding accessibility, affordability, and availability of childcare in Stamford, CT. By providing resources such as funding, training, mentorship, and operational support, this model empowers aspiring childcare providers to create and sustain nurturing environments for children. The Childcare Incubator will be located in a childcare desert in Stamford, CT, providing licensed, affordable, accessible, childcare for low-income families. A childcare desert is defined as a part of town that lacks available childcare based on the populated area. The Childcare Incubator model not only addresses the urgent need for quality childcare in Stamford but also fosters a community where families can thrive, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and grow.

We invite community members to join us for a Community Interest meeting to share their insights and help shape this vital initiative.
