Welcome, Abbi!
one Welcome, Abbi!
Two-year Residency Began August 1
On Monday Abbi Heimach-Snipes joined the Fourth Church staff as our new Pastoral Resident! Abbi is a recent graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary in Hyde Park and brings with her experience working in ministries focused on social and environmental justice.

In the weeks ahead, please greet Abbi and give her a warm Fourth Church welcome!

Pick One up at 9:30 or 11:00 a.m. Worship
Sunday School does not meet again until the Children, Youth, and Family Fall Kickoff on September 11, and so we are particularly pleased to welcome children and youth to worship this month.

To assist in the worship experience, each Sunday ushers will have activity sheets, based on that morning's scripture texts, for the youngest children, and for older children they will have an annotated version of that Sunday's 9:30/11:00 worship bulletin, filled with explanations, questions, and space for notes.

We hope your children and youth will try out these bulletins this Sunday!

threeNeeded: 73 More Backpacks with School Supplies
Donate to the School Supply Drive
Our School Supply Drive, organized by Women at Fourth, wraps up this month, but we still need 27 elementary school backpacks and 46 junior high and senior high backpacks by this coming Tuesday, August 9!

Next week we will be distributing the supplies and backpacks to the children and youth connected with the Chicago Lights Urban Farm, and we want to make sure we have enough for everyone.

We will be collecting these donations--as well as monetary contributions to purchase any missing materials--this Sunday during Coffee Hour and, through Tuesday, at the reception desk.

A list of needed items is available online, at Coffee Hour this Sunday morning, or by contacting Anne Ellis (312.573.3369).

fourAlso Needed: VBS Volunteers Next Week
Help Lead Our Tribes August 8-12
Vacation Bible School kicks off at Fourth Church next week, and we still need more volunteers to lead our grade-school tribes!

Volunteers would be responsible for leading a group of ten to twelve children to and from each of their daily activities, as well as reading a short Bible story together. The volunteer hours are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from Monday, August 8 to Friday, August 12--and, as an added bonus, you'll receive free validation tickets so you don't have to pay to park each day.

If you, your middle-schooler, or high-schooler are interested in helping out during a week of VBS fun, please contact Matt Helms.

fiveHave You Considered Becoming
   a Stephen Minister?
Applications Due August 31
If you're someone who feels compassion for others in their life challenges and wants to lend a listening ear, then please consider pursuing Stephen Ministry training.

Stephen Ministers offer one-to-one caring relationships to support those who are experiencing challenging times, such as loneliness, unemployment, hospitalization, or loss. Each Stephen Minister goes through fifty hours of training, the first session of which will be offered on Saturday, September 10.

Those interested in becoming a Stephen Minister are encouraged to complete an application--available online or by contacting Carol Allerton (312.640.5448)--and return it to the church office by Wednesday, August 31.

More information about Stephen Ministry is available online or by contacting Judy Watt.
