February 12, 2020
Each week, usually on Sundays, my planner prompts me to name a happy memory from this week. This week, without hesitation, my happy memory was worshipping alongside 630ish of our friends and neighbors as we celebrated the Kirkin of the Tartan Worship Service at Epworth By the Sea AND THEN the Snowbird/Love One Another Luncheon this past Sunday. Our church was together in worship and then together again for lunch and it was wonderful. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers who planned, set up, and broke down the space over at Epworth and to those that prepared for the luncheon in the Social Hall. God was indeed worshipped and it was good.

As we move into the weeks ahead, we look forward to a baptism this Sunday as we continue in this season of Ordinary Time. While the name might suggest mundaneness, it refers to the Sundays outside of Advent-Christmas and Lent-Easter that are designated by ordinal numbers: First Sunday, Second Sunday, etc. So friends, see you on Sunday for this Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time.

Grace,
Annie

Musical Notes

Having the Kirkin’ of the Tartan at Epworth was one of those church “experiments” that really worked! All of the plans of the Worship and Music Ministry Team came to fruition as a little over 600 people attended the service. We sang the hymns just as well as Methodists! If you attended and have feedback about this service, please contact me, Suzanne Morrison, or Anne Marie Stirewalt, or any of our pastors by email. Many are saying that we should do this every year, but we would like to hear from you. Thank you to all who made it possible! “We are all one family in Christ” was a powerful message for all to hear.
This Sunday, the Chancel Ringers have prepared pieces for worship.  Fanfare and Carillon by Karen Thompson and With a Voice of Singing by Martin Shaw and arranged by Sondra Tucker. The Chancel Choir will sing Duruflé’s Ubi Caritas.  Here is a translation of the Latin –

Where charity and love are, God is there.
Christ’s love has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.
Let us fear, and let us love the living God.
And may we love each other with a sincere heart. Amen.

Hymns for Sunday: 300 We Are One in the Spirit; and 313 Lord, Make Us More Holy.

The Island Concert Association continues to have a packed house for each concert, despite our renovation situation. People have found their way to the Social Hall safely and are comfortable for the most part for the hour-long concerts followed by a light reception in the Britt Room. Next week brings Claudia Schaer, violinist and Olga Gurevich, pianist. Ms. Schaer is a graduate of Juilliard School of Music and a native of Calgary, Canada. Ms. Gurevich studied in Moscow, Russia and is also an international performer. ICA continues to bring world class performances to this corner of the state. Thank you for your support of this organization. See you at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening! Two more – 18 th and 25 th .

Love & Gratitude,
Rhonda
