February 5, 2020
This Sunday is going to be a good one! First, we will gather for our annual
Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans worship service at 10:30A at Strickland Auditorium on the grounds of Epworth By The Sea (100 Arthur J Moore Dr., St Simons, GA 31522). I hope you will come join us under the oaks as we celebrate our Scottish heritage as Presbyterians, present our tartans, and enjoy the sounds of over a dozen bag pipers and drummers.

We are also excited to once again welcome Rev. Alexander Brown as our Kirkin’ preacher as well as the congregation of Golden Isles Presbyterian where he serves. And please, please, please remember that there will be no regular worship services or Sunday school happening this Sunday morning at the church building. One worship service only at 10:30A at Epworth. We will have lots of signs up and folks outside around Epworth to help direct you.

After the Kirkin’, we invite you to come back to the church to enjoy this year’s joint Love One Another and Snowbird Luncheon. We are grateful to the members of both the Congregational Life and Membership Ministry Teams who are helping to organize this special event. All are welcome. Cost is $10/person. Please click here to RSVP by tonight to let us know that you plan on attending.

See you Sunday. Invite a friend. Casual is fine. Plaid is encouraged!

Peace,
Alan

Moving an entire church to another location takes lots of planning and hands on deck to accomplish.  There’s a certain amount of worry that goes along with it, but dinna fash yersel’ – Scots for Don’t Worry!  I’m sure that Jesus would say the same - in fact, Matthew 6:25-34! Here’s part of my last week’s column to remind you of details about this Sunday’s special service.

“Come and invite your friends and neighbors.  This worship event at Epworth-by-the-Sea is open to the public.  Around the backside of the building (river side) there is handicapped access and parking.  For those that don’t want to walk from parking to the auditorium, there is a “stretch” golf cart and driver to take you from the field behind the auditorium to the front door.  Childcare for ages 5 and under is located in the Gholson Preschool Building that is on the right as you drive in the main entrance off Sea Island Causeway. If you have committed to carrying a tartan, make sure you are in the building by 9:45 am for instructions. “

A group is meeting at 4:30 pm at the church to load Walter’s trailer with all of the furniture and supplies we need for Kirkin’ .  You are welcome to come help at the church and help unload by 5:00ish at Epworth. Anyone that can stay and help us pack up afterwards on Sunday is certainly welcome to help.  Many hands make light work and we can all get to lunch earlier. We have to be out of the auditorium by 1:00 pm.

The Chancel Choir is singing two anthems this Sunday, Celtic Blessings by Linda Scholes and arranged by Mary McDonald, words by Johnson Oatman, Jr. and The Blessing of Light, an ancient Scottish Blessing adapted and music written by Mark Sirett.  Celtic Blessings will feature Crystal Murphy on the fiddle. Epworth has a nice organ and piano that will be played by Amy Bishop. Of course, the First Coast Highlanders will deliver a First Class presentation of Pipes and Drums.

February Festival roared into life this week as Konstantin Soukhovetski blew us away with his skill and artistry.  Next week, Seraph Brass is coming. Five women, all professional brass players, will fill the hall with beautiful sound.  7:00 pm – Doors open at 6:15 pm. Come early to get a good seat.

Love & Gratitude,
Rhonda
