What is Your Wound?  by Canadian-born, Chicopee-based artist Anthony Melting Tallow
The Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery at STCC presents a powerful exhibition celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month entitled, What is Your Wound?  by Canadian-born, Chicopee-based artist Anthony Melting Tallow on view from October 17 through November 17, 2023.

Anthony Melting Tallow has called Chicopee his home since 2005 and is a proud member of the Siksikaitsitapi Blackfoot Nation, a proud Two Spirit, Aya’kii’kas’si (Walks A Journey Between), visual artist, public speaker, Indigenous social justice advocate, and land/water defender.

In this new exhibition, WHAT IS YOUR WOUND?, Melting Tallow confronts the trauma of the past and the immediate challenges of the present through a deep act of
witnessing into the heart of contemporary Indigenous experience.

Throughout the exhibit, the viewer is asked to explore the profound intersection of Indigenous history, culture, and identity offered by the artist through a series of contemporary and vintage photographs, digital imagery, and complex art installations that reflect on a vibrant and enduring Indigenous culture. His work also reflects on some of the personal trauma surrounding Indigenous life of discrimination, extreme neglect, abuse, and homelessness.

Scholarship Application Process for Fall 2023 is now open

STCC Foundation is pleased to offer a wide variety of scholarships to our students for the Fall 2023 semester. Students are invited to apply online with our free and easy process! Learn more below and join us for an information session to get your questions answered and hear more about how it all works.
Attend a Scholarship information session!

Learn about the STCC Foundation Scholarship process.

The online application process will be open until November 11, 2023.

Questions? Contact Lidya Rivera-Early (413) 755-4787 or lmearly@stcc.edu

Deadline: 11/11/23 @ 11:59 p.m. You must have all references submitted and essays completed (if required) by this date and time.

Notification: Scholarship recipients will be notified via email if they are selected as a scholarship or award recipient. Notification typically happens in mid to late November. It is important that you check your STCC email as all scholarship related information will be announced using your student STCC email address. Scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the Donor Scholarship and Award Ceremony in May 2024 to receive their scholarship. Family and friends are invited! More information and an RSVP link will be provided in the award email.

Disbursement of Funds: Scholarship recipient funds will be awarded to your student account through Student Financial Services. Funds are typically applied near the end of the Spring semester and prior to the Fall semester. Funds are applied first to any balance owed for your current semester (or previous semester if back payment is due), and can then be applied to your upcoming semester. If your balance is satisfied and you are not returning for a future semester, a refund check may be issued in certain circumstances.

Other Scholarship Opportunities: In addition to the Foundation and College scholarships overseen by the STCC Scholarships and Awards Committee, there are a number of additional scholarship opportunities available to our students. Visit libguides.stcc.edu/c.php?g=61098&p=392781 to learn more about these external opportunities.
Application Process

To be able to apply, you must have a STCC student email and be enrolled in a major or program of study. Undeclared students are unfortunately not eligible to apply.

  1. Go to stcc.academicworks.com.
  2. Click on Sign Up. Sign Up for a scholarship account using your STCC student email and create a password of your choosing.
  3. Next, check your STCC student email for a confirmation email and click on the confirmation link inside. This will log you into the system for the first time.
  4. Once you are logged in, complete the general application. Once your general application is complete, you may browse the site for scholarships for which you may be qualified. There are two types of scholarships:

  • Auto-match: these scholarships require only the information found in the general application. You don't need to do anything other than complete the general application to qualify for these.

  • Apply-to: these scholarships require that you answer questions or provide more information specific to this scholarship. An apply-to scholarship will have an Apply button next to it in the scholarship listing. When you click on Apply, you will see the questions you need to complete. Once you complete them, you can save and submit your answers. To be considered for apply-to scholarships, you must answer the additional questions. You can find these scholarships on the "Recommended Opportunities" page.

The system will suggest scholarships based on your general application, but it does not match your qualifications 100%. You must browse all scholarships to identify and apply to scholarships for which you may be qualified. If you rely solely on the recommendations of the computer, you will miss out on opportunities!

Our SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) Fitness program will also resume on September 26, 2023. This is a program designed to assist older adults in improving strength, balance and fitness. Our program on campus will run Tuesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 2:15 and lasts for about 1 hour.

If our clinic or SAIL program sound like something you would like more information on, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our students value the opportunity to work with patients and find the experience to be incredibly important in their growth as future clinicians.

While we are certainly not wishing pain upon you, if you do have a condition we may be able to help, please take advantage of this opportunity.

Please reach out to Tom Guzowski or Renae Gorman if you are interested in learning more.

Domestic Violence is widespread and affects people in all communities and genders. In Massachusetts, an estimated 1 in 3 women have experience some form of physical violence by an intimate partner and that statistic has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Isolation and the lack of in-person services during the pandemic led to an overall lack of safe space for domestic violence victims and many felt alone with nowhere to turn.

You are not alone! Here a STCC and in the community there are many dedicated and passionate people helping to get victims the services they need to escape domestic violence. Advocates for domestic violence victims, want people to know they are not alone. They can provide emotional support, help with safety planning, and help connecting to resources.

If you, or someone you know, is experiencing any kind of abuse, please reach out to a local domestic violence advocate. If it is an emergency, dial 911 directly for help.
