The Maryland BOOST Program is a state sponsored tuition support initiative for families who reside in Maryland and choose to have their children attend nonpublic schools in Maryland. BOOST is funded by private donations from donors who receive tax incentives for their donations. All Maryland resident MBS families who have reenrolled or have newly enrolled their children are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements for the Maryland BOOST Program (refer to the Parent Survey that accompanies this communication) and complete the application if they may be eligible. Eligibility follows the guidelines for free and reduced meals that is also used to determine our school's federal funding for Title II-Part A, Title I and Title V. A flyer from the Maryland State Department of Education that provides details for completing the BOOST application process is accompanying this communication. Please see the flyer from the MSDE for the link to the application.  BOOST Flyer

In order to assist families in determining if they may be eligible for tuition support through the BOOST Program, we are including the Parent Survey which families complete in September of each school year. If after reviewing the Parent Survey, you feel that you may qualify for BOOST funding, please complete the application and submit it before May 21, 2018. Parents do not need to complete the Parent Survey at this time as it is provided as a guide to assist in determining possible eligibility for BOOST. Family Survey

Nurse's Suite
The Religious Education curriculum for our Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, Becoming Disciples, includes instruction for students in the area of family life and that includes human reproduction.  On May 10th, our students in 5th grade will be taught the Family Life unit of instruction as part of their religious education.  The instruction in the area of human reproduction will be provided by our school nurse, Mrs. Carlson for the girls and Dr. Cory Carpenter for the boys.  The curriculum that will be taught has been approved by the Diocese and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and the materials being used are those associated with our Religious Education textbook.
Parents will find that the focus of the instruction is found in the Church's teaching that our bodies are temples of God's love and we are obligated to treat our bodies and the bodies of others with respect and reverence.  Human reproductive organs are explained as the means by which love is shared in a marital relationship. Abstinence, until marriage, is taught as our obligation to show respect for our bodies and the bodies of others.  The birth process is explained as the culmination of God's love for us, His people. This is an excellent instructional program that is infused with reference to Sacred Scripture and the Church's teachings on chastity and modesty. The specific materials to be used are available for review and inspection in the office.

The date for the MBS Hit The Books Delmarva Shorebirds game is scheduled for Friday, May 25th. We will provide additional information & the tickets when we receive them for those students who turned in their bookmarks. Please email Mrs. Lenox at klenox@mbscs.org with any questions or issues.
