Albemarle Deanery
Collect for Labor Day

"Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen."
Reminder: Diocesan House will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day. Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3rd .

Campus Ministry Volunteer Opportunities in Wilmington

In recent months, Wilmington's Episcopal Campus Christian Outreach (ECCO) has experienced quite a bit of growth. While Church of the Servant provides a meeting space for ECCO and many individuals from parishes in the Wilmington area have provided meals for ECCO's weekly gatherings, additional support and involvement is needed.

  • The first volunteer opportunity is for cooks. With the increased number of students and appetites, ECCO is currently asking for two cooks each Tuesday night (while UNCW is in session). Currently, the cooks prepare food at home and bring the dish to the church, mostly ready to serve. By sharing this meal preparation between 2 cooks, it will decrease the cost and labor for each, while increasing the number of folks who can participate.
  • The second volunteer opportunity is for dinner hosts. Host duties will involve arriving at Church of the Servant at about 5:30PM on designated Tuesdays, receiving the prepared meals from the cooks, getting things set up to serve the meal and cleaning up after it. It should take no more than 90 minutes. Detailed information and instructions will be available to those who sign up.

Students come to ECCO for the food and stay for the friendships. Meals foster community, and this is a vital part of the ministry. All who are interested in serving ECCO in either of these volunteer roles should reach out to Campus Minister, Alfreda Gee , via email.

They also have access to information about the services and resources available to them. This year's Farmworker Festival will take place on Sunday, October 6th from 12-4pm. Click here to learn more.

Interactive Deanery Map

As a reference, we have created a map on Google Maps listing all worshiping communities in our diocese. They are also color coded according to deanery. If you download the Google Maps app on your phone, you can open the map there in addition to opening it in your browser.

Not only is this a quick way to see which parishes are a part of what deanery, but it also allows you to get directions to each parish, should you need them. Click here to access the interactive deanery map.
