NEWS & NOTES

To be the head, heart and hands of Jesus Christ,
driven by God's love for our church and the world beyond.

NOTES FROM NANCY

WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT

CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST?

WHY? August is the right time to ask a few of our artistic/crafty members to begin making 8 Chrismons for the special tree we want to have up by November 27, the First Sunday of Advent.

WHAT IS A CHRISMON?

A Chrismon is a symbol of Christ and can also reflect the biblical story of our faith. The name derives from combining the words CHRISt & MONogram.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Rev. Steve Plunkett, (our former Interim Pastor) examines in his book Faith and Politics in a World Gone Awry, how faith affects everything that disciples of Jesus Christ think, do, and are, including how we participate in the politics of our community, state, and nation. Classes studying this stimulating book will meet on Sunday and Thursday mornings this fall, Thursday, September 15, and Sunday, September 18. You are free to choose which day best fits your schedule. Steve Davis will facilitate the Sunday Morning class at 11:15 and Gay Amos will facilitate the Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. A brief informational meeting about the class will be held after worship on Sunday, September 11, at 11:15 a.m.

NEWS FROM THE WORSHIP TEAM

The Candle Table is open for use. During the last 2 years we felt that gathering in clusters was an unhealthy situation, so we had not been lighting or promoting the Candle Table. Now, if you wish to remember a loved one or say a quick, silent prayer and symbolize it by lighting a candle, you are welcome to do so.

Liturgist Needed: Liturgists play a vital and necessary role during each Sunday's Service. You will be given the passages well before Sunday, so you can familiarize yourslef before the service. This is an excellent time to step up and help before the fall program begins.

Ushers Needed: Ushers are also an important part of the Sunday's Service. Ushers help visitors find things, like bulletins, the Balcony entrances, restroom, etc. They are also helpful on Communion Sundays. If you are interested in serving as a Liturgist or an Usher please contact Lois Thorp at [email protected] or sign-up in the Narthex, at the Welcome Center.

PRAYER PARTNERS NEEDED

We have many people praying for others and we would love to have you join us! The only requirement is the desire to pray for others. When you receive the prayer request via e-mail, you do not need to pass it on to anyone....just to God. Please contact Judy Murphy at [email protected] to be included as a prayer partner. "Lord, teach us to pray." Luke 11:1
