A Chorus Invitation for You! (Yup, you!)

Hello, WES friends! Greetings from Lea (Interim Music Coordinator) and Perry (Chorus ringleader).
This is an exciting time at the Washington Ethical Society, as KC Slack prepares to give their first platform as WES’s new Senior Leader. Of course, music has always been a vital part of the Sunday platform service, and as WES enters this new chapter in its history, we are writing to invite you to help create the musical experience in one or more ways.

First, we invite you to join the WES Chorus. The Chorus welcomes ALL adults and older teens who want to experience the joy of making music together and giving our community the gift of song. If you have ever enjoyed singing—in your seat at WES, in a grade-school choir, in the shower or the car—or even think you MIGHT enjoy singing, the WES Chorus is a fun and safe opportunity for you. The Chorus will resume its weekly rehearsals on Wednesday, August 10th, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm in the main hall, in preparation for Opening Sunday on September 18th! (For now, we are continuing to rehearse masked.) Please contact Perry for details.

Not available on Wednesdays, or want to just dip your toe in the water? Then let Perry know that you’d be interested in invitation #2: a Sunday morning pre-platform session focused on the Song of the Month (which hasn’t yet been selected, but will be something easy to sing along with). He’ll need to work out the timing with the tech team, but such sessions could be offered on September 4th and/or 11th. Participants could help lead the SotM up front with members of the Chorus or from their own seats in the hall.

Do you feel like your voice is “rusty,” or that you could use some help getting started as a singer? Then invitation #3 is for you: contact Lea to arrange a one-on-one video coaching session. Lea has worked with people of all ages, with and without previous singing experience, and would be happy to help you take your next musical step.

Finally, you’re also invited to contact Lea if you’d like to join the WES Band, provide Sunday platform music on your own, or suggest outside musicians who might be interested in providing platform music.
As Kimberley Debus discussed in her June 12th platform, music has always been an important way to bring people together. That’s true of singing together, but even listening together can be a shared communal experience. We look forward to hearing from you with your offers or ideas about the platform music experience at WES.

Thanks,
Lea Morris ([email protected]) and Perry Beider ([email protected])
