The Welcome Table: Where’s My Seat?
What does it take to live into our desire to be racially inclusive?
This Platform is the culmination of Beyond Categorical Thinking Weekend. During the Workshop, on Friday and Saturday, WES members have had a chance to unpack and move forward on dismantling implicit bias in the search for a new Senior Leader. Carol Carter Walker is an active lay leader with the UUA and with the Paint Branch UU Church in Adelphi, and is a longtime Beyond Categorical Thinking facilitator.

Afghan Support Group
- WES has also signed up with LSS to have a long-term co-sponsorship relationship with a refugee family. We hope to be matched with a family in the coming weeks, and we would then sponsor that family for a year, providing English language learning, transportation, benefit application assistance, job assistance, financial support, and cross-cultural mentoring.
-
We will need many WES members to be part of this sponsorship team – please contact Kate Lang at klang20910@yahoo.com if you would like to participate.

Sign up Now for the LSC's Cozy Cottage Meetings & Fall Focus Groups
-
We hope you’ll be part of the continued conversation at one of the 15 cottage meetings the LSC will host on Zoom from November 1 through November 13. See the full schedule and register for a cottage meeting here. Please note that each cottage meeting will be capped at 15 participants. Smaller groups will allow individual participants more time to speak.
-
Focus groups are planned next week for members who self-identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, members under the age of 45, new members who joined WES from 2017 on, SEEK adults and teachers, and/or current and recent Board Trustees (those who served from 2017 on). If you self-identify with one (or more) of these groups, please sign up to join the relevant discussion(s) at this link.
