A transborder team of artists and musicians will invade the gothic halls of the historic St. Paul’s Cathedral in Bankers Hill and fill it to the brim with works that explore connections between the earthly and the divine. This three-day, community-based event will include new works, world premieres, and thought provoking performances curated by Diana Benavidez and Leslie Ann Leytham.

"This body of work began when I moved to a rural ranch in Southern Monterey County, and simultaneously learned that my ancestors spoke Lekoudesch, also known as Jewish Cattle Traders Jargon. I am fascinated by Lekoudesch: a secret language of Hebrew origin developed by Jewish cattle traders who were not permitted to own land or participate in many facets of society due to being Jewish."

Tiffany Bociek’s solo exhibition, Enduring Exuberance, consists of three series that were born from the artist’s internal exploration of her past, her present state of being, and a vision for her future self. Created through encaustic (wax) painting, the exhibition underscores several states of being: well-being, challenge, chaos, and transformation.

This afternoon of music, film and poetry celebrates the connections between Blake's poetry and Axelrod's music, featuring Los Angeles creators like DJ J. Rocc of the World Famous Beat Junkies, the legendary lyricist Ras Kass, filmmaker and photographer Brian "B+" Cross, Grammy Award-winning cultural journalist Lynell George, poet-professor Mike "the Poet" Sonksen, labor historian Lee Boek, and the screenwriter and spoken word artist Monique Mitchell, plus surprise guests.

In this cosmic opera by artists Malik Gaines and Alexandro Segade, a starship crew seeks refuge on the hostile planet 85K: Aurora. As the planet defends itself from the crew’s invasive presence, the humans evolve to become a part of a queerly multi-species organism that covers the entire world.

The exhibition Moved\Displaced features work addressing the themes of migration and displacement from a wide variety of perspectives. The show includes 28 artists working in an array of artistic mediums and methods. These artists are predominately based in Southern California and create their work with influences from a divers set of backgrounds.

UG James DeLisio named in Best Video Essays of 2023

British Film Institute

UCSD Undergaduate and Visual Arts minor James DeLisio was nominated four times in the British Film Institute’s Sight & Sound Best Video Essays of 2023 poll. He was nominated for his video essay on Phil Tippet’s horror film “Mad God,” alongside many other prominent scholars and artists in the field.

The exhibition invites viewers into a world where the aesthetic strategies of ruins serve as a lens through which domestic subjects are rendered within an ecological narrative. This body of work is a convergence of art and technology, fusing the past and the present in a captivating and thought-provoking manner. The works feature a now derelict 1930's catalog home where the artist previously resided for the past decade.
