AUGUST 2021 NEWS & UPDATES | STPHILIPS1600.ORG
Welcome Back, Saints!
We pray that your family is enjoying summer and you are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. We are so delighted that you are part of our amazing community! We believe that our God has his loving arms of protection around our school and children. We are confident in God’s word, “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28. HATS off to a great school year!
Kid Reporter Program
We would like to send a huge thank you to Academy Sports + Outdoors for donating $5K to our school to purchase new PE and athletic equipment. In addition to this awesome donation, Academy and the Big XII Conference partnered with St. Philip's for a Kid Reporter Program, allowing our current students and alumni to join Big 12 Conference Media days July 14-15 at AT&T Stadium. Each student had the once in a lifetime opportunity to interview players and coaches about the upcoming season, things they like to do in their off-season, and much more. We are so blessed to provide our students with these amazing opportunities. Check out all the coverage our students received! Big XII Conference | Academy Sports | NBC Sports
Summer at St. Philip's
This year Summer Camp at St. Philip’s focused on applying curriculum learned throughout the year in an engaging way. During the 5-week program, our early childhood students focused on health, safety, STEM, art, and activities to grow their imaginations. Our 1st-6th graders participated in a virtual tutorial program focused on reinforcing content taught throughout the school year. This allowed students to build a better understanding and further explore content.

Thank you to AmeriCorps for providing amazing services to our students and staff! We would like to also send a special thanks to Sharay Xpressions for a colorful week of ARTS, Kourkie Kreations for the bright and vibrant face painting. Chef Ricky and Family for the snow cones and treat bags, and The Dallas Stars for providing the STARS bounce house. To the St. Philip’s faculty and staff, thank you! Our students' lives were enriched because you were a part of it.

Pantry Volunteers in Action!
It didn’t take long for recently retired faculty member Shelia Pate to return to campus. After serving for 27 years in the classroom, Shelia has been regularly volunteering in Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry this summer. She is nonstop and diligent in preparing and loading baskets of nonperishable foods, produce, frozen meats, dairy, breads, snacks, and more for our neighbors. Thank you, Shelia, for sharing your time, positive energy, and servant heart with the Pantry!
Courtenay Strey and her sons have been serving St. Philip’s since early 2020 when her son Slaton did an Eagle Scout project for the school. Slaton and his mom also serve through their YMSL Dallas Chapter (ESD). This chapter dedicated their Ultimate Gift service project to St. Philip’s last fall, spending the weekend on campus serving the South Dallas community. Courtenay’s younger son, Brooks, also helps in the Pantry. We appreciate the Strey family for their service!

Under Construction
We’re so excited that great things are happening on campus. There will be a fresh new look to welcome everyone back to school. While construction is scheduled to be complete by the start of school, it is currently in progress, so please be reminded the front entrance and parking lot are closed off to employees and visitors and designated for the construction team. The temporary entrance for employees and visitors into the building is through the Learning Center (Gate 3). Anyone visiting campus should park across the street in the fenced parking lot and walk-through Gate 3 for entry. Watch for signage to help direct traffic. Thank you for your patience and support.
