HOW SWEET IT IS!
This past fall, St. Philip’s received a beehive as an expansion of our comprehensive STEM program thanks to a generous grant from Capital One. Now that the bees are back in business after a rough winter, St. Philip’s was able to yield its first harvest of honey! With our new beehive, 100 jars of honey in partnership with Alveole have been prepped for distribution, with more to come later this summer. These jars will find a home on the shelves of Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry.
ICYMI
Percussion Camp
This summer, young musicians were invited to St. Philip’s Percussion Camp, where they learned the history of percussion while getting a hands-on lesson from seasoned musicians from the Dallas area. Check out their performance!
Black History Matters WeCreation Center Mural
Juan Hernandez, former St. Philip’s art instructor and St. Philip’s alumnus, completed a brand-new mural featuring the words “Black History Matters.” The message aims to spark the curiosity of students at St. Philip’s and the rest of the community. Juan’s design includes beautiful portraits of three notable Black women in STEM: chemist Alice Ball, inventor Patricia Bath, and biochemist Marie Daly. You can find the mural on the east side of the WeCreation Center building located at 3016 Colonial Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75215.

WE NEED YOU! Volunteers Make the World Go Round
Aunt Bette's Community Pantry
Client choice shopping inside the pantry made its return on June 13. There are expanded volunteer opportunities, which means we need your help! Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry has volunteer slots available on Mondays and Wednesdays 7:45 am-11:45 am, Tuesdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:45 pm, and Thursdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm.
Volunteers continue to pick up surplus meals daily from Snap Kitchen at Mockingbird/Skillman. These meals are distributed through Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry, and through other nearby partners when our pantry is closed. Please send an email if you are interested in helping with this effort as a substitute driver. Pick-ups are in the mornings.
Gwen’s Garden
We would love YOUR help in Gwen's Garden! We need volunteers to assist with our community garden on the first Saturday of the month. The task of keeping the garden in constant motion requires several hours of labor. In addition to planting and harvesting, the garden must be routinely maintained, and that is where you can help. Volunteers are needed to weed, plant, harvest, and perform any other duties which lend themselves to the upkeep and general beautification of the garden.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
The Real Estate Council Young Guns are a group of commercial real estate professionals aged 35 and under who come together to build relationships, grow their careers, and make an impact on the social, political, and community issues that affect the city of Dallas. We would like to acknowledge Alex Scheiwe and Patrick Henning. Alex was chair of the 2021 Young Guns community investment project that renovated The Grace apartment complex. Patrick was a member of the Young Guns 2020 group and led the Young Guns Foundation project to finish the construction of the St. Philip’s WeCreation Center. The two gentlemen's dedication to this ministry is invaluable! On behalf of St. Philip’s, we thank you for your service!
