Delaware Soil Health Partnership
Since 2014, the Delaware Soil Health Partnership (DSHP) has been hosting workshops, field days and other events focused on soil health management and local research. Now, the DSHP has a new website where farmers and conservation partners can find information about upcoming events, locally-relevant soil health research, recorded presentations from past events, and links to additional resources from around the region. Users can also join a mailing list to receive notifications when new events are added.
DSHP is a collaborative effort between Delaware's Conservation Districts, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Delaware Department of Agriculture and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.

Soil Your Undies...
...in the name of science, and soil health!
We've asked farmers across the county to add a new crop to the rotation, tighty-whities!
In mid-May, a dozen pairs of underwear were planted across western Sussex County; we'll unearth them in 60 days to see what's left.
This experiment tests soil health in various production systems, from no-till to conventional tillage, and everything in between. Healthy soils are full of microbes that can devour organic matter (100% cotton underwear) in as little as 60 days!

2022 Census of Agriculture
June 30, 2022 is the last day to sign up for the 2022 Ag Census. If you have never received a census and are new to NASS surveys, sign up to be counted today. You do not need to sign up if you already receive NASS surveys.
Key Dates:
• June 30, 2022 – sign up ends
• November 2022 – census mails out
• February 2023 – response deadline
• Spring/summer 2024 – data release
The Census of Agriculture is a complete count of U.S. farms and ranches and the people who operate them. Even small plots of land - whether rural or urban - growing fruit, vegetables or some food animals count if $1,000 or more of such products were raised and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the Census year. The Census of Agriculture, taken only once every five years, looks at land use and ownership, operator characteristics, production practices, income and expenditures. For America’s farmers and ranchers, the Census of Agriculture is their voice, their future, and their opportunity.
