The 20th Anniversary Destiny Award Luncheon was dynamic! The luncheon featured Academy Award nominee, Golden Globe winner, and star of the award-winning film
Hidden Figures,
Taraji P. Henson, who pledged $10,000 to St. Philip's School and Community Center during her engaging moderated interview with
Lily Weiss. It was also announced that with a gift from
Jewel and Roland Parrish, Ms. Henson is the first Parrish Family Destiny Award Luncheon Speaker.
Congratulations to the 2020 Humanitarian Award Recipient,
Peter S. Brodsky.
If you missed the luncheon, there’s still an opportunity to help us reach the last stretch of our goal. We are asking 200 donors to make a contribution in honor of 20 years of Destiny, St. Philip’s signature fundraising event.

4th Grade Narrative Puppets
|
Our 4th graders were tasked with creating a puppet to resemble the French Explorer LaSalle. Each student had to present their narrative of LaSalle in the form of a puppet show for the class to hear.

Rites of Passage Student Career Fair
|
At the career fair, students were able to hear from professionals, gaining insight in various career fields. We would like to thank each professional for sharing your expertise with students in our community to help shape our future.

1st Grade Annual Heritage Program
|
Excellent job to our first-grade students who presented our Annual Heritage Program. Each student dressed as their famous African American icon, and presented their research to the crowd of students, faculty and parents.

PK2 and PK3 African American Achievers Dress Up Day
|
Our youngest students also dressed as famous African Americans, and shared noted accomplishments of their historical figure with their classmates.
|
|
2nd Grade African American Cereal Box Project
|
Second Graders picked a famous African American, created and named a cereal after them, and shared their presentations with the entire lower school. Students did a fantastic job presenting facts, quotes, and images of their famous African American.

NHL Black Hockey History Tour
|
The Dallas Stars will be bringing the NHL Black Hockey History Tour to St. Philip’s on Monday, March 23rd. The Black History Month celebration is part of “Hockey Is For Everyone”, a joint NHL and NHLPA initiative that has celebrated diversity and inclusion in hockey since 1996.This uniquely curated mobile museum celebrates today's stars, while also looking back at the pioneers and trailblazers who helped shape NHL history. Students learn about some of the biggest moments, milestones, and playmakers in hockey.

Moody Foundation Gifts St. Philip’s $3M for Performing and Fine Arts Pavilion
|
|
During the 20th Anniversary Destiny Award Luncheon, St. Philip’s announced a generous gift of $3M from
The Moody Foundation to the WE BELIEVE CAMPAIGN’s capital project. The foundation’s gift will name the new
Moody Performing and Fine Arts Pavilion and partially fund construction of the new facility. A groundbreaking event will be held in the fall of this year. St. Philip’s plans for the new performing and fine arts pavilion will help shape the next generation of artists and arts patrons in the southern sector.

BINGO, BBQ, & THE BLUES

We are currently hosting a
free Lacrosse Skills Camp for children in 1st-6th grade. Camp is held from 6:30-7:30 pm every Tuesday and Wednesday through May 1st, with the exception of spring break week. Although the camp is free, we ask that you register your children
here.

Soccer Registration Open Now!

Join us this spring for our youth soccer league! Registration is open for all boys and girls ages 3-8 years old. Athletes will not only learn the fundamentals of soccer, but they will also learn the value of teamwork. Register

opens on March 16. Track and Field is open to everyone in the community ages 4-14 years old. For Baseball and Softball we are looking for boys and girls age 5-10 years old to register.

New Student Referral Incentive Program
If you are paying tuition for enrolled students at St. Philip’s School and Community Center, you could be earning tuition credit! For each new student you refer and get to enroll and attend St. Philip’s, your family will be awarded $200 tuition credit through our
referral program!

Better Block MLK Kickoff
The Better Block and TREC Foundation welcome all community members to help kick off the
Better Block MLK Project on Tuesday March 10, from 6-8 pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church. The goal of the project is to create a more vibrant, community- oriented street. All community members are invited to learn more, provide feedback.

Connect Dallas
ConnectDallas is now entering Phase 2 of its Strategic Mobility Plan development. The planning process includes City leadership, residents, and stakeholders working together to envision a mobility system that supports the city’s housing, economic, equity, safety, and sustainability goals. ConnectDallas Is seeking input from the many populations who utilize including bicycling, walking, driving, transit and freight. Please take a moment to complete the MetroQuest Survey

Monthly Community Center Events
Girls Night Out is a monthly mentoring program in collaboration with the Junior League of Dallas for girls attending St. Philip’s as well as our Community Center. The sleep over begins at 6:00 pm with a night full of food, fun and fellowship.
Each month we provide free legal clinics, offered in collaboration with the D.A.V.P (Dallas Volunteer Attorney’s program). The clinics are open to qualifying neighbors of the South Dallas Community.
Community Meeting - Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 6:00 pm
Monthly meetings are held to give community stakeholders a platform to organize, collaborate, and share ideas to ensure South Dallas is a safe, healthy, and vibrant community.
This month's presenters include the following:
- Frost Bank: financial education classes for the community
- Interfaith Family Services: housing programs and services for homeless women and children,
- Hopeful Solution: program for single women recovering from substance abuse
- Juanita Craft at Baylor Scott & White: Health Education
- Shannon Brown with South Dallas Fair Park Public Improvement District

MoneyGram’s Day of Service
We would like to extend our gratitude to MoneyGram International for coming to our campus for a volunteer service day.
Nearly 50 employees from across the country joined in the service day at St. Philip’s, working on a variety of projects across the campus.

Snap Kitchen Partnership
We now have a partnership in which Snap Kitchen supports our pantry needs with surplus food on a daily basis. Our clients rely on us daily to provide nutritious meals to sustain them and their families. While they rely on us, we rely on you! We need volunteers to help pick-up surplus food from our Snap Kitchen partner in Downtown Dallas.

Aunt Bette's Community Pantry operates as a client-choice pantry, much like a grocery store, and currently serves over 650 households, 1,500 individuals, and distributes 700,000 pounds of food annually!

We are always in need of paper and plastic shopping bags for Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry. Please feel free to drop off your bags at our pantry or the front desk at St. Philip’s School and Community Center.
