ICYMI: NBC 5 Community Conversations: Call for Change
Dr. Flowers was featured in a segment on NBC 5 called “Community Conversations: Call for Change”. In this segment community leaders and members converse about what we are seeing unfold in our country in the wake of the death of George Floyd and the call for change. Harvest Days
Friday, September 25th would have been the late Mrs. Gwendolyn Barjon’s birthday. To honor and celebrate her life, we held a weeklong Harvest Days celebration. The week started with a mural unveiling (painted by our very own alumni and former art teacher, Juan Hernandez) along with the sharing of special memories, songs, and prayers. During our Harvest Days celebration, those who knew and loved Mrs. Barjon brought gifts of fresh produce to be donated to our food pantry or seeds/seedlings to be used for our garden. Thank you to everyone who donated. Happy Heavenly Birthday Mrs. Barjon, you are so loved and missed.

Volunteers in Action!
Vicki Eastland, a longtime teacher at Parish Episcopal School, was introduced to St. Philip’s nearly 25 years ago. Through the years, Vicki has volunteered at the Thanksgiving Feast and at the Mother's Day Store. Recently, she was excited to begin a regular Monday route picking up surplus meals from Snap Kitchen in Uptown for Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry. Vicki and her husband Mike consider St. Philip’s to be one of their philanthropic priorities.
After volunteering during the Samaritan’s Feet shoe giveaway event, Young Men's Service League (YMSL) Dallas Chapter worked in Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry on Sunday, October 4th, doing inventory, bagging produce, and assembling boxes of food items. The boys and their moms assembled harvest bags and distributing them to 200 neighbors in our community. The harvest bags included a mum, decorative pumpkin, fruits and vegetables, a flyer with information on upcoming community events and resources, and a handwritten note. We are honored that YMSL chose St. Philip’s for their “Ultimate Gift” service project. The “Ultimate Gift” is an annual chapter-wide project for YMSL, typically done in the fall by all YMSL chapters across the nation as large community projects for students in each grade to participate with their moms.
Aunt Bette's Community Pantry
Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry needs Volunteers! There is an opportunity for a limited number of volunteers to sign up for shifts on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:45am-11:30am. All volunteers must wear masks and gloves, maintain safe social distancing, and neighbors are required to wear masks upon arrival. Masks are provided for those without one. Sign up to volunteer.

Recycle Your Paper or Plastic Bags! We are always in need of paper and plastic shopping bags for Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry. In addition to regular sized grocery bags, we also need slightly larger bags, similar to those from Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. Please feel free to drop off your bags at our pantry during hours of operation.

We are also in need of wrapped plastic cutlery, such as those given with take-out orders. These are distributed to our neighbors receiving Snap Kitchen meals. If you have gently used rolling duffle bags and suitcases to donate, we would appreciate those as well. These would enable clients without transportation to easily transport their groceries home.
Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Giveaway
Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Giveaway helped put shoes on the feet of nearly 800 children and adults. In partnership with Truist Bank and Samaritan’s Feet, this event was held on our campus on Saturday October 3rd. Each person received a “Hope Tote” that contained a new pair of shoes, socks, toiletries, and an encouraging handwritten message. Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) Dallas Chapter from ESD provided the volunteer manpower for the day. These boys and their mothers not only distributed the shoes, but they also helped with the logistics to keep everything running properly. We are so grateful for their service.
Tackle Hunger Souper Bowl of Caring
Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry has been selected to participate in the Tackle Hunger Souper Bowl of Caring. Souper Bowl of Caring uses the energy around football’s biggest celebration to inspire youth to tackle hunger across the country. Each campaign runs throughout the American football season, starting in September through the Super Bowl. St. Philip’s supporters can make donations to our campaign portal which directly supports our pantry. When the campaign comes to an end around the time of the Super Bowl, we will report our total number of donations, which will be added to a collective total throughout the country. Last year, with thousands of individuals and groups participating the Souper Bowl of Caring donated over $10.6 Million to help feed the hungry. Donate today!
Premier Transportation Partnership
Our longtime supporter, Premier Transportation, is volunteering their time and company vehicles to pick up surplus food from the Super Target at Skillman/Abrams on Fridays to deliver to Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry. In addition, Premier has offered to donate 5% of sales back to SPSCC for any new accounts set up by friends and supporters of St. Philip’s. This rebate will continue to yield 5% of proceeds for all rides associated with these new accounts. If your business begins using Premier, this promotion will apply to all of its employees’ business and personal travel as well. Contact Eric Devlin for information regarding this new rebate program: [email protected] or 214.351.7000, ext. 101.
