Veterans' Day-Photo Album

Dear Parents,

As we make plans to observe Veterans Day at Sacred Heart School in November, we invite you to participate by sharing a photo of a relative or friend who served our country. The link below, PHOTO ALBUM,  will be shown on our school video monitors during November. Children will watch the photos of veterans with admiration and pride.

Please join this effort by sharing a photo with us.

Middle States Re-Accreditation- Survey Due before 10/10

Sacred Heart Elementary School is currently undergoing a self-assessment process that involves

gathering feedback from the entire school community, including students, families, teachers, and staff.

Your participation in this survey is completely anonymous, and the data collected will be reviewed by a school committee to identify both strengths and areas for improvement. The survey results will also be shared with an external review team that will visit the school to verify the self-assessment and determine eligibility for re-accreditation by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.

The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and includes approximately 30 multiple-choice questions, followed by two narrative questions where you can provide additional feedback.

Thank you for your time and input in helping us improve our school.

Lunch/Recess Duty

Thank you to everyone that has helped to support our Parent Volunteer Program for lunch/recess duty.

Your help has allowed the lunches to run smoothly and efficiently and helped to keep our students safe and active as they play outside.

We have had a great start to the school year with so many families volunteering. Thank you! Please help us to end October and November with filled sign ups.

If you are unable to volunteer during the school, but would like to fulfill your duty requirement, please contact Ms. Theresa in the school office to become a contact person that reminds parents of their duty days and helps to find substitute volunteers as needed.

If you have completed your family's 6 required days, but are available to help more, please sign up. We appreciate your support.

National Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day

SHES Friends,

SHES is participating in National Walk, Bike, or Roll to School Day on Wednesday October 9. If you can, please consider walking or biking to school. Your child will get a certificate for participating, and we just might win an award from Pittsburgh’s Safe Routes to School program (if we have the most kids participating).

To help out, I’m organizing walking buses and bike trains, let me know if your kid would like to join one. I’m also looking for parents willing to lead one of the trains/buses to school, and back at the end of the day. You don’t need to hit up each house, my hope is to have one meeting point in each neighborhood. Please pass the word around; I don’t know everyone at SHES!

Bike Pittsburgh puts out a handy map of suggested bicycling routes around Pittsburgh. Take the new protected bike lanes on Euclid through Penn Circle, cruise down the neighborways on Coral Ave through Bloomfield or Ellsworth Ave through Shadyside.

Here’s a tasty way to help Sacred Heart Elementary earn vital funds! ALL DAY on Wednesday, October 9 we’ll be hosting a fundraiser with the McDonald’s restaurant at 6361 Penn Avenue (by Trader Joe’s).

Here’s how it works: If you use the McDonald’s Mobile App to order and pay for your meal that day, McDonald’s will donate a portion of the sale to our school. Download the app today so you’re ready to order on October 9!

Volleyball Pink Out Game for Mrs. Osio

Many students, staff and families have expressed that they want to support Mrs. Osio during her cancer treatments. The SHAA and Volleyball teams have decided to have a PINK OUT volleyball game on October 18th (6:30 and 7:30pm) when Sacred Heart plays Sacred Heart.

I&M printing (Sacred Heart alumni) has graciously donated the printing of the shirts and so all proceeds will go directly to the organization of Mrs. Osio's choice. Mrs. Osio is so appreciative of all of your support and all proceeds will be donated to breast cancer awareness and research (Organization TBD).

Shirts are $10.

Please submit total payment and orders by Wednesday, October 9th at 12pm.

We will order extra tshirts for sale after this date, but shirts and sizes are not guaranteed unless ordered by October 9th at 12pm.

Thank you for donating to our Sacred Heart Elementary Breast Cancer fundraiser.

Fundraising Buy-Out Option

From the Parent/Student Handbook: The diocesan policy for funding in the elementary Catholic schools calls for each school to have fundraising activities to generate at least 10% of their total operating budget. To the extent possible, families of Sacred Heart Elementary School are asked to support the school fundraising efforts through participation and volunteering of time. All fundraisers, unless otherwise noted, are for the sole use of Sacred Heart Elementary School.

The annual fundraising goal for Sacred Heart is $150,000. That means that each family (300 families) should contribute approximately $500 worth of fundraising per year in order for us to meet our goal.

If you are unable to or would prefer not to be obligated to participate financially in fundraisers, but would like to help us meet our goal, you can pay the $500 Fundraising Buy Out through FACTSgiving using the link below.

**If you would like to do the $50/month buy out option, please email Mrs. Mascaro. There have been issues with FACTSgiving that we are currently working out for the monthly payment option.
