Issue IV
To the IDUG Community
Currently we are monitoring the evolving situation around the coronavirus (COVID-19). As we make decisions about our upcoming events, your health and safety are our top priority. This means that some of our planned events will need to be postponed. In these cases, we are working hard to explore all of our options for rescheduling. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We also want to acknowledge that many people and businesses in our community will be adjusting to a new reality for the time being. We understand that everyone will be facing their own unique set of challenges. At IDUG we will continue to provide the technical content and community connection that members have come to rely on. As always, we feel incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated team of volunteers. If you have any questions or you would like to reach out to us about any other information, please contact us at
The High Availability and Resiliency Architecture in Db2 Warehouse on Cloud
By Aniket Kulkarni
One of the key metrics which hardware and software components are measured in today is “Availability” metrics. It has become the norm to expect high 9s of availability. A highly available system translates into a highly reliable system also. In spite of systems being highly available and reliable, component failures are to be assumed. The ability to (a) detect these failures and (b) recover very quickly in an automated fashion is also key. The foundational components of Db2 Warehouse on Cloud “Flex” are highly available and reliable. Furthermore, the Flex configuration has the ability, at several levels in the architecture, to detect failures and correct them with negligible downtime, all with the goal of keeping to the high 9s of availability.
