News & Updates from Your Library

Welcome to the Library!
We are always happy to welcome our youngest patrons to the library. It is a great place to connect with other families, whether attending early literacy classes, spending time in our Family Place play area, or browsing for books, early literacy kits, and more.

Our picture books are divided into sections to make it easy for adults and children to find the books they want. While adults may not wish to read Christmas books all year long, let your child make the selections that interest them the most. Repetition is good for children, too, so do not be afraid to renew a book or check out a favorite title over and over.
Tips to create lifelong readers:
  • It is okay if your toddler does not sit still through an entire book. Ask your child to act out parts of a book or read parts together. Create an activity that is enjoyable for both of you.
  • Talk, read, and sing together everyday, in the grocery store, during diaper changes - whenever the mood strikes!
  • There are many ways to share a book. Instead of reading a book all the way through, take a “picture walk” or ask your child questions about what they see or what they think might happen.
Early Literacy Classes

Our Early Literacy Classes focus on talking, reading, singing & playing. Research shows that talking, reading and singing with your child every day from birth helps build their brains and develop skills to help support important math, reading and social skills for school and beyond.

Don’t worry…
  • If your child does not sit the whole class - they are welcome to stand or even walk around the room.
  • If your child is an observer during the class, they are still learning. We love to see how observers over time and how they change and eventually choose to participate.
  • If you or your child is having a rough day - we have all been there. Feel free to step out and regroup (or try again the following week). Let us know how we can help.
