New Locations Announced for 2021-2022 School Year
MECK Pre-K is announcing new locations for the 2021-2022 school year. Thanks to additional funding from Mecklenburg County, this FREE program will have 105 classrooms at 46 childcare centers across the community. A full list and interactive map of locations can be found at MeckPreK.org.
To apply, children must be four years old on or before August 31 and live in Mecklenburg County. Families can apply online using a computer, tablet or smartphone at MeckPrek.org. They can also download and complete paper applications or apply in person by appointment. MECK Pre-K staff can be reached by email at info@meckprek.org or by calling 704-943-9585.

Priority will be given to families who earn at or below 400% of the federal poverty level. MECK Pre-K requires certain documents to verify eligibility. A complete list of documents can be found at MeckPreK.org.

for Fall Registration!

MECK Pre-K offices are normally open from 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday, but we'll be open until 7PM on the dates below to assist families with registration.

If your child is entering pre-kindergarten this fall, we've got your covered! Here are some tips and resources to help you and your child prepare.
Ready4K Text Messages
Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and Read Charlotte have partnered together to provide a free texting service to more families with children ages 0- 5 in Mecklenburg County! Each week, participants receive three messages with fun facts and tips on ways to help their child learn and grow. Ready4K tips are a great addition to your daily routine, like getting dressed, bath time, or preparing a meal. Messages are always age and developmentally appropriate. Reading Checkup
The free online Reading Checkup, from Read Charlotte in partnership with Learning Ovations, is available for families to support their pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade children’s progress during the school year. Last summer, 2,500+ local children received a Reading Checkup and your child can benefit from this free resource too!

ABCs of Active Reading
The benefits of active reading are many! Active reading helps your child build vocabulary, engage with others, develop reading skills and connect what they are reading to the world around them. This video breaks it down so that active reading can be easy and enjoyable.

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation has a wide variety of public parks, shelters, programs and experiences for you to enjoy this summer and all year long. We mobilize resources, forge partnerships, and support families to improve early childhood health, education and development - all to help ensure children are prepared for kindergarten.
