We're Thankful for
the Gift of Pre-K
As we wrap up the Thanksgiving season and prepare for the holidays, we at MECK Pre-K are feeling thankful! Thankful for the gift of pre-k and all of you who make it possible.

  • We are thankful for our students, who come to us ready to grow and learn each day.
  • We are thankful for our families, who support our students and teachers.
  • We are thankful for our teachers, who work hard to deliver a high-quality learning experience every day.
  • We are thankful for our MECK Pre-K staff and center staff, for all they do to make this life-changing program possible.

And finally, we are thankful for you, and everyone who believes in the value and impact of pre-k!

Scenes From MECK Pre-K Classrooms

This fall, MECK Pre-K students have been busy learning, growing and having fun while developing important skills for lifelong learning.
Looking at nature through a magnifying glass teaches children about science and discovery.
Building with blocks teaches spatial awareness and fine motor skills.
Fall is a great time for outdoor learning! These students are learning about the five senses.

MECK Pre-K offices will be closed Dec 24 and Dec 31. We wish everyone a wonderful winter holiday, and look forward to welcoming our families back in the New Year!
Fun and Educational
Winter Break Activities
Now that we're approaching Winter Break, we're sharing some ideas for fun and educational activities you can do at home. We asked our teachers and staff for their best suggestions and put them on our blog!

  • Salt Dough Ornaments are an inexpensive and fun way to make ornaments and memories!
  • Do a Family Kindness Challenge! See who can do the most acts before the end of Winter Break. Examples include collecting items for care packages for people in need, making cards for senior citizen homes, and donating to charity.
  • Read holiday or winter-themed books out loud. This is a fun way to bring the family together. Find books by browsing your local library or bookstore! Learn about different countries and what and how they celebrate in December.

Books For Kids 0-4 From Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library are working together to bring books to Mecklenburg County’s youngest children. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a program created to foster a love of reading among children aged birth to five through the gift of a specially selected book delivered right to their home each month.

This program is free and available to children ages birth through four years old living in Mecklenburg County.
Smart Start supports families to improve early childhood health, education and development - all to help ensure that children turn five ready to thrive.
