Newton’s Cradle and Stirling Engines Spark Curiosity at Claremont School

Newton’s Cradles and Stirling Engines have become vital hands-on learning tools for students at Claremont School, helping bring energy, motion, and thermodynamics lessons to life.

These interactive models allow students to directly observe scientific principles in action, deepening their understanding and sparking curiosity in the classroom. Teachers have reported increased engagement as students explore how energy transfers, how engines work, and why motion matters.

Special thanks to 4th grade teachers Aaron Mace and Saraj Rijos for bringing this experience to the entire fourth grade. Their dedication was key to the project’s success.

This initiative reflects Ossining MATTERS' ongoing commitment to innovative, experiential learning that inspires tomorrow’s thinkers and problem-solvers.

StoryWalk Grant Brings Music, Literacy, and Joy to Park School

Now in its second year, the StoryWalk at Park School continues to spark joy and curiosity by combining stories, music, and movement. The currently featured book, My Community/Mi Comunidad, has captivated Pre-K students, especially after an exclusive live performance by its authors and musicians, 123 Andrés.

With engaging classroom activities and a QR code linking to the story’s accompanying song, the StoryWalk offers a fun, hands-on approach to building early literacy skills. A new photo gallery, designed by artist Eliana de Gennaro, will soon showcase student participation and the learning inspired by each story.

One more book launch is planned this school year: Paletero Man, another musically enriched story that helps bring reading to life for young learners.

Ossining MATTERS is proud to support initiatives like the StoryWalk that foster a love of reading and promote literacy development in our youngest students.

A special thank-you to Greta Ringel, longtime Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Park School Early Childhood Center, whose passion and dedication have been instrumental in bringing the StoryWalk to life.
