FEMA Relaunches Podcast with New Focus
|
A relaunch of FEMA’s podcast, Before, During & After, features an interview with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell as she discusses her background as well as the agency’s priorities in the midst of expanding demands.
The new episode was released on the agency’s 43rd anniversary, marking the date then President Jimmy Carter signed an executive order on April 1, 1979, establishing FEMA. Future podcast episodes will cover FEMA’s work in climate resilience and adaptation, how equity is being instilled into emergency management, recent disaster recovery efforts and resources available to better prepare for future disaster risks.

Flood Insurance for Renters
Renters may think the benefits of flood insurance are limited to homeowners and businesses, but policies are available to protect renters, too. The National Flood Insurance Program recently updated one of its resources for renters to increase education on contents-only flood insurance policies. Consumers, policyholders and agents can reference this brochure to learn about flood risk, what’s covered by their policy and how flood insurance premiums are calculated.

FEMA Testimony on Priorities and Strategic Plan
FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell outlined the agency’s priorities for 2022 and its strategic plan for 2022-2026 during a 90-minute testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management.

E2460: Advanced Building Science Flood and Wind Mitigation Series
The first full offering of E2460 will be held at the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) on May 9-13, 2022. E2460 promotes the adoption and enforcement of hazard resistant provisions and mitigation implementation for increased resiliency against flood and wind hazards.
