Events
Financial Foundations…financial coaching for the next generation.

We’re offering two free courses on August 5 and 12 for your children and/or grandchildren ages 20-40. They will learn about the purpose of money, spending, investing, savings, income taxes, insurance, estate planning, and charitable giving.

An internal Syverson Strege committee has been working on the curriculum for over a year, so you can be confident the course content will be outstanding.

After attending the two courses, attendees will receive a complimentary, confidential private consultation with a Syverson Strege Associate Financial Planner, plus access to the eMoney tool, just like your Client Portal.

Attendees are required to attend both courses on August 5 and 12. Registration is currently open and will be limited to the first 25 individuals or family units. Your children or grandchildren can register here.

More information about the event can be found on this promotional flier.

If you were unable to attend the live virtual workshop, you can view the recording by clicking here.
New Phone System
A new phone system will be installed at Syverson Strege on May 26-28. We do not foresee any issues or disruption of service during that time, but wanted you to be aware in case you experience any issues. If you should need to call and can't get through on the main line, please call 515-290-2207.

Our team will also undergo training on the new phone system, so please bear with us as we learn all the features of the new phone system.

Charity Discovery
This month’s Charity Discovery is EveryStep, formerly HCI Care Services, Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa, and Amanda the Panda: Center for Grief and Loss.

Their mission statement: We empower individuals, support families, and strengthen communities. When people face life's most difficult moments, we are with them, at EveryStep.

EveryStep has led the charge to address a wide variety of vital community health care and social service needs, offering prenatal support and home visits to new moms, assistance to immigrants and refugees, compassionate hospice and home care services, and grief and loss support.

EveryStep has a strong reputation and a long history of serving vulnerable populations to help them live their best lives. Today, the non-profit’s 30 plus programs, more than 370 employees, and nearly 900 volunteers offer care and support to Iowans.

Out and About
David Strege serves as Chair Emeritus of the nonprofit, NEFE (National Endowment for Financial Education), and attended a three-day NEFE board meeting in late April. NEFE champions effective financial education and envisions a nation where everyone has the knowledge, confidence, and opportunity to live their best financial life.

Financial Planner Wayne Johnson and Director of Marketing & Communications Julie Summa staffed a Syverson Strege booth in support of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association’s 2021 convention.

Syverson Strege is blessed to partner with IFDA as they promote and support funeral service excellence. Especially during COVID-19, these “last responders” went over and above serving their clients during a difficult time, and we thank them for their service.
Financial Planner TC Conley and Associate Financial Planners Ben Geiger and Mike Murkins attended the FPA of Iowa luncheon to hear speakers on macroeconomics and post factor investing.
Managing Director Lance Gunkel joined the virtual Alpha Summit — a meeting of the minds — hosted by CFA Institute. The full-day virtual conference included industry changemakers to help attendees be challenged and inspired.
We were thrilled to be one of the corporate sponsors for the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Spring Greens event. Lance Gunkel, Matt Roberts, Wayne Johnston, and their wives attended the Caribbean-themed event at Colby Park in Windsor Heights. The event included live music, a special menu and meal to match the theme, and personal “Spring Greens” picnic baskets for each guest.
This past year DMARC assisted over 58,000 unique individuals through its network of partners. With two food warehouses and numerous community partners, DMARC is today Iowa’s largest Food Pantry Network, working to meet the needs of Greater Des Moines. This is only possible with the help of a generous community including individuals, businesses, and nearly 200 faith communities from across the religious spectrum, giving contributions of cash, food, and service.
Syverson Strege supported Junior Achievement by sending Jennifer Scheck, Michael Team, Jerin Young, and David Strege to compete in an afternoon round of mini-golf. Junior Achievement empowers local K-12 youth with financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career and work readiness programming.
Jason Gunkel, Ben Geiger, and their wives represented Syverson Strege at the “Victories & Visions” 2021 Joshua Christian Academy annual banquet on May 14.

The mission of Joshua Christian Academy is to build a Christ-centered academic foundation within the hearts and minds of urban children, equipping them and their families to serve God and others to their fullest potential through outstanding biblical education.
