Of dog cookies and long-range plans…looking forward.
It is hard to believe that summer is over. It was hot and trafficy and seemed to go by so quickly. However, if you really think about it, Memorial Day (the unofficial start to summer here on Cape Cod) seems like years ago. But now we get to look forward to the fall, my favorite time of the year. I love the slower pace, the chance to take more time to chat with our patrons, take longer walks with my dog, George, and generally just slow down until the inevitable wind up for the holiday season.
The library is in the (long) process of updating our long-range plan and mapping out how we can continue to be an integral part of the Yarmouth Port community with programs, services, and facility improvements. We are trying to determine what we can do better, what we can change, and how to better serve you. If you have thoughts and suggestions on what you feel we might need to change, maintain, or enhance at the library over the coming years, please take the time to share those thoughts verbally or in writing with staff members or members of the Board of Trustees. We want to look forward with you.
Which brings us to dog cookies. With the very hot summer, George and I have not been doing our long walks to Barnstable Village after work as frequently as we usually do. Thus, George got the unfortunate news from his vet that he needs to drop a few pounds…thankfully my annual PCP visit hasn’t happened yet, but I certainly can empathize with the poor pup. Making changes for the better is always hard, but it truly is for the best in the long run. George’s cookie intake may soon be curtailed, but I will offer some comfort with increased cuddles. Please think about the library’s future, let us know how we can improve and change, enjoy the cool of fall (and the welcoming comfort of our fireplace in the reading room when the temperature warrants), take advantage of all the library has to offer…and be sure to enjoy a piece of chocolate at the circulation desk — just keep George in mind! And as always, thank you all for allowing me to be a part of this very special library and community.
