TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) provides students with academic assistance and serves students who are first-generation, meet income guidelines, and/or have a documented disability, and have an academic need for support. Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual violence is widespread, including 1-in-4 undergraduate women. Sexual assault is never the survivor’s fault. There are many on-campus and off-campus resources.
Sexual Assault is any nonconsensual sexual act prohibited by law. This includes when the victim lacks capacity to consent. Most perpetrators are someone known to the victim. Many incidents of sexual violence are not reported to the police.
You can make a difference in preventing sexual assault. Learn about consent. There are many things you can do to help keep others safe. Request in-person or virtual bystander intervention training.
STCC Resources: The SAFE Project provides resources for survivors. A YWCA advocate is on-call, and on campus weekly. National Sexual Assault Hotline: 800.656.4673, or chat.

Domestic Violence is widespread and affects people in all communities and genders. In Massachusetts, an estimated 1 in 3 women have experience some form of physical violence by an intimate partner and that statistic has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Isolation and the lack of in-person services during the pandemic led to an overall lack of safe space for domestic violence victims and many felt alone with nowhere to turn.
You are not alone! Here a STCC and in the community there are many dedicated and passionate people helping to get victims the services they need to escape domestic violence. Advocates for domestic violence victims, want people to know they are not alone. They can provide emotional support, help with safety planning, and help connecting to resources.
If you, or someone you know, is experiencing any kind of abuse, please reach out to a local domestic violence advocate. If it is an emergency, dial 911 directly for help.
