In 2012, the Milwaukee Arts Board distributed grants totaling $150,000 to 31 local nonprofit arts organizations for a variety of arts programming, including music and theatre performances, visual arts exhibitions and artist residency programming for youth and adults.

The City of Milwaukee, through its Arts Board, with additional support from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funding from the State of Wisconsin, provides grant awards to nonprofit arts organizations located within the City of Milwaukee through a competitive grant review process. MAB grants are intended to enhance the development, cultural diversity, accessibility, and enjoyment of the arts in the City of Milwaukee.

If potential applicants are unable to access the online application, they may request a paper copy by calling the Milwaukee Arts Board at 414-286-5796. Please direct any questions to Lynn Lucius via phone at 414-961-0113 or via email at

Catch the Buzz: Milwaukee Plans Streetcar System for 2016

City of Milwaukee officials recently announced plans to begin construction on a downtown streetcar system as early as 2014. Routes will connect the Intermodal Station, the Third Ward, East Town, and the lower east side-- serving the greatest number of riders possible and providing significant opportunities for economic development and sustainability. In late 2012, Milwaukee was awarded a $51.9 million federal grant that will pay for the majority of the project.
