ALUMNI NEWS
The December issue of Ceramics Monthly contains a great full-length article by clay alumnus Rachel Clark . In the article, she discusses how she is using a Zing laser etcher produced by Epilog Laser for oxide fusion printing onto thrown clay forms.  Rachel and her other half Brendan Mims (both received BFA degrees in clay from TTU) are having MFA thesis exhibitions at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in March 2018.

HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS
Our Spring one-day workshop program has a few openings available. Most workshops take place on Saturdays throughout the spring from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and include the workshop, all materials and lunch. They are a great way to learn a new skill or improve current skills.

NOTE: A special Beginning Knife Making Workshop will be offered at the Appalachian Center for Craft January 13-14, 2018 (Saturday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

Jay Replogle will lead participants in creating one or two knives (depending upon skill level). This workshop is open to true novices and beginning level blacksmiths who want to learn the basics of Bladesmithing. All materials and lunch are included for the weekend. The fee for the course is $200. If this workshop fills, we will offer another January 20-21. Register here!
SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL INTENSIVES
The Craft Center is pleased to announce that we will soon email Summer High School Art Intensive invitations to interested high school art teachers. Teachers select two of their students to attend a week-long hands-on fine craft program on the campus of the Appalachian Center for Craft. Teacher-student groups spend the mornings in one craft studio, afternoons in another studio, and the evenings in shorter hands-on sessions. Workshops occur in well-equipped metals, glass, fibers, and wood studios.

The fee per person is $50 and includes instruction, use of tools and equipment, all materials, room and board for the week, and a kit of basic art supplies. To receive an invitation, please email Gail Gentry, programs manager, at ggentry@tntech.edu .
THE GALLERY
Artist of the Month | Barry Stein
The Gallery is having a 20% off sale on all work in the gallery from December 9-21. Hours are 10 am-5 pm Monday - Saturday, and 12-5 on Sunday.

The gallery will be open until the 21st and closed from December 22 - January 2. Reopening with regular hours on Jan 3.

Barry Stein has been taking photographs for 50+ years. “We see the world through our mind, a mind that filters, magnifies, and transforms the sensory elements of our experience. My images reflect a physical and emotional experience unique to a certain time, place, and mental state of being. Although these images are ultimately grounded in reality, they also represent a unique way of experiencing reality that reveals a certain beauty in the way light interacts with texture.”
