Businesses worldwide benefit from the products built in Cheboygan’s Industrial Park
A new, Michigan family-owned specialty manufacturing facility is in the Cheboygan Industrial Park. It manufactures and delivers several unique, metal fabricated products shipped to different customers and businesses all around the world.
The building, formerly owned by Moran Iron Works, was purchased by the company in March of last year and has been creating specialized metal components and other products since the company officially opened in June of 2023. It began operations and manufacturing of products with seven employees and are continuing to grow.
“We are Steel-Max Manufacturing,” said Matt Morton, Operations Manager of Steel-Max Manufacturing. “We are a part of an Interdependent Free Market Consortium. We call it the IFMC and the IFMC is made up of 100 plus different business units, all owned by a common group of owners. All business units in the IFMC are in the field of selling, designing, and manufacturing material handling equipment like conveyors, material lifts, material storage units and shredders.”

Improvements being made at ball field in Major City Park | |
Work is currently being done around the men's fast pitch ball field in Major City Park to upgrade the buildings and provide a better experience for spectators at sporting events there.
“We are going to be redoing the dugouts and the facade on the blue building at that field,” said Cheboygan City Manager Daniel Sabolsky.
Half of the blue building at the field has already been demolished due to structural issues and has been re-enclosed. Crews will finish repairing the building so it can be used when games are taking place on the field.

Sabolsky said the local baseball associations are also working to raise the funds needed to replace the backstop behind home plate and the fences around the field.
Other work near the ball fields in Major City Park includes improvements to the restrooms and concession stands, which will be completed through grant funding.
Stay tuned to the City's newsletter for more information on that project in the future.

Grant from Enbridge purchases chainsaw for City Fire Department
The Cheboygan City Fire Department was recently able to purchase a new rescue chainsaw for use during structure fires and rescue operations after they received an Enbridge Fueling Futures grant.
Cheboygan Fire Chief Don Dailey said he had applied for the $3,000 grant through the energy company. After receiving the funding, he was able to purchase the STIHL rescue chainsaw locally, from Cheboygan Ace Hardware.
“We will be able to use the chainsaw to cut ventilation holes during structure fires and also when performing salvage and overhaul,” said Dailey.
Dailey said the chainsaw came with two extra bars and two extra chains, which can be replaced when the ones on the power tool start to wear out from use.
“It's in service and ready to go,” he said.
Dailey has applied for several other grants to help purchase more equipment needed by the department to perform their duties.
The City of Cheboygan and its Fire Department are very thankful for grants from Enbridge and other partners such as this that allow City first responders and other staff to perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively.
