Manchester Trivia Question?
Last Month's Trivia Question: What Manchester artist had a successful career as a watercolorist, art teacher, book illustrator, and wood engraver and was a founding member of both the Manchester Art Association and Manchester Historic Association?

ANSWER: Henry W. Herrick (1824-1906) was a talented wood engraver, book illustrator, and watercolorist. After spending his childhood in New Hampshire, Herrick began his career as an artist in New York, working for several prominent publishers, as well as teaching at the School of Design for Women. In 1865, he returned to Manchester where he continued to work as a designer and engraver, as well as take up the art of watercolor. Herrick was very involved in civic life in Manchester. He was active with the Manchester City Mission and was a founder of both the Manchester Art Association and the Manchester Historic Association.

His work is the subject of an upcoming exhibition at the Millyard Museum: "Henry W. Herrick: Manchester's Most Versatile Artist", opening April 20.
