The Principles of Our Principals

October is National Principals Month and the perfect time to educate the community about the high caliber of leaders at the helm of each of our schools.

As a district, Lancaster City Schools uses Portrait of a Graduate to set the standard for educating every student, beginning in elementary school. The three primary areas of concentration are learning, caring, and succeeding. It is the responsibility of our principals to implement these fundamentals, not only into the curriculum of their students but into the culture of their individual schools. Further, the state of Ohio encourages principals to uphold the standards of leadership, learning, culture, and management. And if that isn't enough responsibility, our principals also maintain financial budgets, oversee human resource issues, implement disciplinary measures, deal with building and transportation matters, and are responsible for the academic achievements of hundreds of students. Oh! We also prefer if they are likable, approachable, and fun to be around!

Obviously, LCS principals have a lot on their plates. They are busy individuals who put the needs of hundreds of people ahead of their own on a daily basis.

There is a saying that a truly great principal is hard to find, difficult to part with, and impossible to forget. We hope this month you will take the time to remember a principal and join us as we say THANK YOU to our amazing school leaders.

Students and families have been kept busy during conference nights with a variety of educational games available to explore! What a great idea!

Gorsuch West Elementary

It's on! The highly anticipated Teacher & Student Halloween Costume Competition will take place on October 31st. The event aims not only to celebrate Halloween but also to cultivate a sense of community and fun! We can't wait to see who wins!

Tarhe Trails Elementary

Mrs. Dreisbach's 2nd-grade class celebrated Comic Book Day by creating their own comic book pages. Many students have begun to enjoy graphic novels and really liked learning about how I read comic books as a child and how many movies started as comic books.

Tallmadge Elementary

The future is bright for Tallmadge Elementary students. Students were able to explore career possibilities with the help from Lancaster High School Career Tech students. There was so much inspiration that students even dressed up as their future careers.

Mt. Pleasant Elementary

First-grade students hosted a Robot Walk showcasing the robots they not only created but also the colorful biographies that accompanied them. Family members were invited to visit and meet every robot!

General Sherman Junior High

The 8th-grade honor students are making the connection between science and art by drawing from an x-ray of their own hands!

Thomas Ewing Junior High

It will be pretty difficult to forget the steps involved in Portrait of a Graduate since they adorn the steps of Thomas Ewing! This is a great way to keep these goals on everyone's agendas.

Lancaster High School

Lancaster High School hosted a student leadership seminar recently. Students who participated were nominated by a coach, director, or advisor of a student extra-curricular activity. The seminar was facilitated by Jennifer Lawson from Focus 3, an Ohio-based advisory firm that provides consulting and training resources.

Preschool

Fire safety is no joke and the students at Tarhe Preschool are learning how to be responsible and safe. Well done students!

Bridges

Local author April Eckert visited and read from her book There's a Spider in My Bathtub! April has been a teacher for more than 10 years and continues her love for nature through her writing.
