DCCA Meeting Recap and Upcoming Festivities
Thanks to all who joined the lively discussion on scooters and transportation at the November meeting. We look forward to continuing the conversation and keeping you updated on the ways to give input for sidewalk friendly planning. While there was no sense at the end of the presentation by DDOT that a solution to the many problems posed by scooters is imminent, you may find the information below helpful for reporting issues related to parking of scooters:
If you come across a scooter that is blocking a sidewalk, take two photos: one showing the scooter blocking the path and the second showing the QR code on the handlebars. Send both photos to the scooter company (contact info can be found here ) and be sure to copy dockless.mobility@dc.gov . For immediate responses to issues, including improperly parked, abandoned, or damaged vehicles, please contact the companies directly.

To submit general feedback regarding the dockless scooter program to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), please send an email .
The November meeting also offered an informative presentation from Sarah Fasbaugh from ABRA regarding how to protest alcohol licenses . Finally the meeting concluded with a brief overview of the results of our membership survey . The slides presented by DCCA President Glenn Engelmann can be found here . The results were illuminating and will help guide DCCA programming in 2020. Thanks to all who took the time to participate!

Leaf and Tree Collection Continues
The second pickup of leaves starts next week and many residents have a lot more leaves to be collected on this round. Here are details of the second collection dates:

If you live :                                          Your leaves will be collected :

East of 15 th  Street                              December 9-14 th
West of 15 th  to 23 rd  St                      December 16-21
West of 23 rd  to Wisconsin Ave          December 23-28
West of Wisconsin Avenue                December 30 – January 4

Please note that no collections will take place on holidays.

DPW asks that your leaves are raked into a tree box or at the curb. Do not put them in the street as this is a fire hazard and can create parking issues. It’s also more likely for leaves to get into catch basins from the street, clogging them causing flooding. DPW collects leaves only from single family homes and apartment buildings with less than 4 units.

Christmas trees and greenery will also be collected by DPW after the holidays; scheduled pick ups are from January 14 th  through February 2 nd  with your trash and recycling collection.
Snow Prep Reminder and Shoveling Exemptions for Seniors & Disabled
snow-shovel.jpg

As we head into the winter season, please remember that the Department of Public Works (DPW) requires all residential and commercial property owners to remove snow around their property. Residential property owners are fined $25 for neglecting to shovel the sidewalk on the perimeter of their home. Commercial property owners are fined $150. All property owners need to clear snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of snow fall to avoid paying a fine.

For those individuals who are disabled or over the age of 65, you can file for the sidewalk shoveling exemption. The form can be found on the DPW website.
