Houston's

Pastor Aswad Talks with Beto

CLASS Bookstore, a Black-owned spot in Houston, was sought out by the publisher of Beto O'Rourke's book WE'VE GOT TO TRY (about the importance of voting and social action) to do a series of events with Beto O'Rourke... speaking engagements on local college campuses, a community meet and greet at their bookstore, and a community conversation in Houston's historic 5th Ward where Beto would be in conversation with a moderator. The Landrys, owners of CLASS acknowledge that Black folk in the community have supported them in their journey they wanted to make sure to include as many of those folk as possible in their Beto-related events. Because they say I've been one of their most vocal supporters and a media/journalist friend, they wanted me (Pastor Aswad) to be that person to converse with Beto.

During the April 20th meeting of the Detroit Metropolitan Association of the United Church of Christ Linking Board, Shrine #1 received a $1000 grant from Heart for Mission Missionary Team. Additionally, members from Shrine #1 were selected for the following positions in the association.
