The feature highlights hunger among our nation's military families and Feeding San Diego's efforts to serve them through theFeeding Heroesinitiative. The piece generated viewership from around the globe.
For the first time in 45 years, seniors in California who receive SSI are eligible to apply for CalFresh. On July 23, Feeding San Diego — in partnership withServing Seniors, 2-1-1 San Diego, County of San Diego Health and Human Services, and Senator Toni Atkins — hosted an application event to raise awareness of CalFresh and help senior SSI recipients apply for benefits.
Recently, Vince Hall, CEO of Feeding San Diego, was invited to speak at TedxSDSU. In his presentation, he explains how Feeding San Diego is solving hunger by reducing food waste. Thank you TEDxSDSU for the opportunity to talk about this important work.
Feeding San Diego and AMC partnered on a donation campaign to end hunger at this year’s Comic-Con. AMC encouraged visitors to visit “DeadQuarters,” its official fan zone of “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead,” to donate canned foods or funds to benefit Feeding San Diego. Thanks to the generosity of “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” fans, we raised 14,762 meals!
Feeding San Diego was honored to be one of six charity beneficiaries of Switchfoot Bro-Am 2019 for the fourthconsecutive year. We were on-site for Bro-Am Beach Fest, and hosted Switchfoot and 200+ of their fans from around the world for a day of service. They helped sort and pack 25,455 pounds of produce. Thank you, Switchfoot, for your ongoing commitment to ending hunger in San Diego County.
