This Sunday...

Is peace possible? That is a question that comes to us on Just Peace Sunday, which we will observe this Sunday. Congregational Church has been a Just Peace Church for decades. We will give thanks for the journey thus far, and look to needed efforts for the future. Is peace possible? Yes!!

An Important Reminder:

"Please remember that Interim Pastor, Campbell Lovett, will never send you an email or text asking for gift cards, money or personal information. Unfortunately, scammers will sometimes use his name to try to separate people from their financial resources. Please don't be fooled!

200th Anniversary and the

Parish House

Volunteers sought for re-naming sub-committee

As we celebrate the founding of our Church community 200 years ago, we want to highlight the creation of the Parish House in 1959. Our congregation created this building to hold church offices, Sunday School classrooms, and meeting spaces. In addition, our forefathers and mothers wanted to offer spaces for community organizations to use free of charge. Ever since then, the lower level rooms have been filled with a variety of groups from Girl Scouts to AA to Church of Another Chance.

The Church Council has been discussing this and feel that the building needs a bit of rebranding as the outdated name “Parish House” doesn’t tell the passerby what its purpose is or how it’s used. Dozens of people are in and out of the Parish House every day and there’s a good chance that none of them see the name as having a connection to their reason for being there.

We’d like to consider a new name that would reflect the many uses of this building as it supports our church and the Laconia community. Would you like to be a part of a small sub-committee that will be discussing this topic in the next few months? We’ll brainstorm ideas and names and have a proposal ready for the congregation to consider at Annual Meeting in January. Contact Diane Tinkham at tinkhams@metrocast.net or 603-455-2427 if you’re interested in participating.

“Scarves and Hats in the Square”

As we prepare for the colder seasons, Stitches of Love is getting ready for Scarves and Hats in the Square on Friday, November 3.

In addition to scarves, this year we are adding knitted or crocheted HATS to our local fall Outreach project. Any styles or colors are welcome - for kids, women and men! If you would like to contribute your hand-stitched projects, they can be dropped off in the Church Office. And we have plenty of free yarn available.

Experience Transformation

Dear Members of the New Hampshire Conference Family, you're cordially invited to be a part of a transformative experience at the 222nd Annual Meeting of the New Hampshire Conference, United Church of Christ. This year, we're embracing the theme of "Turning the Tables," drawing inspiration from Matthew 21:12-16. Get ready for a day of insightful discussions, meaningful connections, and spiritual growth.

The Dorcas Fund

In 1960, the Diaconate of Congregational Church of Laconia established the Dorcas Fund. The fund is named for the biblical figure, Dorcas, who was known for her good works and acts of mercy. Our church’s Dorcas Fund is used in that same spirit - helping church members and friends to meet emergency needs that unexpectedly confront them. The Fund also assists non-members of the church in three specific areas: gas for medical appointments, heating oil, and assistance to avoid shut-off of electricity. While the Diaconate still provides oversite of the Dorcas funds, it is confidentially administered by the Pastor and/or the Financial Secretary.

Church members are invited to seek assistance when needed – or to offer financial support

of the fund when possible.
