Church members getting ready to celebrate

the Congregational Church of Laconia

200th Anniversary on July 28, 2024

All are welcome!

Horton Center Pen Pal

There is a new program that partners with churches who love Horton Center! We

were given a wonderful young man, Thaddy Sieverding, as our Pen Pal. He is on

camp staff and will be the photographer this summer. Some of us know him from

his work this past year as the ITE specialist on the staff of the NH Conference.

Please consider sending Thaddy a note or his favorite food- Peppermint Patties

and Cheez-its! We’ll have postcards available at coffee hour or you can use your

own. Let’s send Thaddy some love from Laconia!

The address for Horton Center is:

Camper/Staff name

PO Box J

Pinkham B Road

Gorham, NH 03581

Note from our Horton Center Staff Pen Pal Thaddy-

“This past week has been such a fun roller coaster as it was the biggest week of camp this year. I got to lead my first hike on staff to Hermit Lake. We went to our archery range, the campers had a great time trying out the new rock climbing routes.”

Last week, Thaddy thanked us for the box of his favorite snacks that we sent him. Send him a note if you’d like to say “hi”!

Creating an In-House Photo Directory

The Diaconate is very excited to see that photos of church members are

continuing to be sent to Carolyn Jorgensen at the Congregational Church of Laconia

so she can add them to our Church Photo Directory! Apparently some of you are

“camera shy” and you have not submitted your photo yet?! To help you along, we

have permission from Lorraine and Granville Barrows, Diane Wells, and Richard &

Maurine Bastille to share their photos and we hope this inspires you to get creative

with your own photos. Maybe a photo of you and your family, you and your dog, or

you and your cat?

Please share your photo with Carolyn Jorgensen at carolyn@laconiaucc.org and she

will slip it into the photo directory for you!

Thank you!

Diaconate

The Outreach Committee sponsored a high school student for 2024 from OneLife Africa. We received the following introductory letter about Elly Otieno.

Thank you for your help supporting him!

Congregational Church of Laconia History Book

Bob Harrington has been working hard updating our first history book from

our first 150 years. This new history book is a timeline of events from 1774 with the history of early Congregationalism in the Lakes Region to the present, with lots of fabulous photos.

The book will be available for $5.00 to help defer the cost;

and will be available. Date to be determined

History Walk

The Congregational Church of Laconia, United Church of Christ located at Veterans Square in downtown Laconia invites the community to see some of our history in photos. The display will be outdoors on the grounds of the church from June 17th to July 31, 2024

In 1824 this church was founded in faith and continues in 2024 to move forward in spirit. Join us July 28th at 9:00a.m. when members and friends gather to celebrate the two-hundredth anniversary of our church. "Wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome here." Let's celebrate together!

Got Lunch Laconia Starts Season 14

Got Lunch! is grateful to the Congregational Church of Laconia for hosting its program for the 14th consecutive year. We could not provide nutritious food to the food-insecure children of Laconia each summer without the generosity of this congregation.

Got Lunch! deliveries will continue on each Monday morning during the summer. The final delivery will be on Monday, August 26.

During this 10 week period the church hall will be in use by GL! each Sunday morning. This means that Coffee Hours will need to be hosted outdoors or on the bridge/second floor of the Parish House. Each committee should plan accordingly. The exception to this schedule will be on Sunday, July 28th when the church celebrates its 200th anniversary in Church Hall. GL! will delay their use of Church Hall till after the celebration is finished.

It is people like you who help to make Laconia a better place to bring up children–even when it means some inconvenience to our orderly church life. The children of Laconia and Got Lunch! Thank you!
