Blast!

November 15, 2024

Congregational Church of Laconia, UCC

In an effort to protect church members and friends from the phishing scams that target churches, we will no longer be including phone numbers in the email blast. We will continue to include email addresses, as scam email addresses tend to be easier to detect. In addition, many email servers are equipped to filter out likely scams.

If you need an updated church directory with phone numbers, please let Carmen or Eliza know, and we will get one to you.

As always, please remember that it is very unlikely that Eliza will text you asking for help in getting gift cards or other means of financial assistance. If you receive any such communications, please feel free to block the number; if you're not sure, please call the office.

Faith Formation Octopi!

On Sunday, Jayla taught us how to make these adorable octopi that she creates to share kindness in the community. Some of ours looked a bit more like squid and jellyfish! Jayla often attaches notes about the importance of being kind to others and is a very kind teacher! Look for Jayla’s creations at the Christmas Fair!

The Nominating Committee is currently working to fill positions of all standing committees in the church.

The good news is there is a strong group of people who continue to serve, but there are still several opportunities for others to join.

Right now there are openings in Diaconate, Educational Ministry, & Outreach Committee. And a golden opportunity for a Vice-Moderator.

And if you are not always in the area or don't like going out to a meeting, not to worry, every group, anytime is happy to have you join via Zoom wherever you may be.

As quoted, "Being a member of this church is not a spectator sport." Jump in!

Outreach News

Ann Peck, Executive Director of Kids Health India, visited this past Sunday to give us an update on the Smokeles Stove Project. Smokeless stoves are in high demand in the rural areas of southern India, near Kodaikanal. We’ve been partnering with Ann for 20 years to remove cooking smoke from inside the homes, the leading cause of childhood mortality.

Visit Ann’s website at kidshealthindia.com to learn more. Your $50 donation will purchase and install one stove and make a huge impact for a family. It’s a great idea for a Christmas present!!

Thanksgiving help for to-go meals

We are once again preparing the Thanksgiving meal for to-go meals and we always offer a slice of pie to go with all of the turkey and dressing and all the fixings.

We need members to bake a pie or two to help us with this.

Pies can be brought to the church on Sunday morning, November 24th or Monday November 25th to the church office. Or during our work times on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We will begin with meal preparations on Tuesday morning about 10:00 AM to about 1:00 PM. No cooking skills needed for this time.

Show up on Tuesday morning and stay for whatever time you can.

Thank you

Hollis and the other turkeys
