Big News for the Future

2020 was the most challenging year for our community. With shutdowns and layoffs, Mission Central was more essential than ever. One of the most crucial elements that has come out of the pandemic is a much clearer understanding of what our neighbors need and a clear vision of what needs to be done. So what is it? Mission Central plans to eliminate poverty in Hurst, Euless, and Bedford. It's ambitious and challenging, but it will improve the lives of thousands of our neighbors.

So how do we fight poverty? We have identified three main barriers to moving beyond poverty.

Health and Wellness: Before a family can begin building a prosperous career, they must have access to basic needs, such as food, clothing, housing, and medical care. Almost a third of Mission Central’s guests self-identify as having a disability, with medical issues that could limit employment opportunities. Meeting these basic needs is necessary before a family can begin to thrive with living-wage employment.
Career Services: Obtaining and keeping living-wage employment is the key to moving out of poverty. We will connect our guests with the skills and tools they need to build a prosperous career.
Youth Empowerment: The last phase of eliminating poverty is to prepare young people to build their own living-wage careers as they move into adulthood. We will provide programming to children in HEB that will help them identify their post-graduation goals and provide inspiration and skills toward meeting them.

Volunteers Needed

We need you! Volunteers are needed at the Village Pantry, the Village Library tutoring program for the Fall semester, the Mission Central Thrift Store, and at the Coat of Many Colors Resale Shop. We have many volunteer opportunities and schedules to meet your needs. The first step is to attend a Volunteer Orientation.
