‘Love North Tahoe’ Program Launches to Encourage Shopping Local

The “Love North Tahoe” program has launched in support of local businesses in North Lake Tahoe. A shop local initiative supported by the Business and Chamber Advisory Committee and funded by the TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program, Love North Tahoe aims to encourage residents and visitors to shop at local stores, dine at neighborhood restaurants, and use nearby services. As part of the program, a North Lake Tahoe eGift Card has been relaunched that can be used at participating retailers, restaurants, services, sports and entertainment options within the region. To celebrate the relaunch of the program, eGift card purchasers who buy between Oct. 15 and Nov. 30, 2024 will receive an extra $5 for every $25 spent. Those who pledge their love by signing up online will receive confirmation entitling them to a free LOVE sticker that can be picked up at North Tahoe Visitor Centers in Kings Beach or Tahoe City.

Propositions on the Ballot That Could Impact Your Business

There are two propositions on the November 2024 ballot to be aware of that could have impacts to local businesses. If approved by voters, Proposition 32 will raise the minimum wage in California in 2025, implement an $18 per hour minimum wage for all employees in 2026, and adjust the minimum wage for inflation every year starting in 2027. Proposition 36 allows felony charges and increases sentences for certain drug and theft crimes. As it relates to theft, Prop 36 makes the theft of items worth $950 or less a felony if the person has two or more past convictions for certain theft crimes. It also allows felony sentences for theft or damage of property to be lengthened by up to three years if three or more people committed the crime together.
