Business & Community News | North Tahoe Chamber Executive Director, Kimberly Brown, brings you the highlights of this month's edition of the North Tahoe Chamber Business and Community News.
North Tahoe Visitor Information Center Experiences Record Engagement
The North Lake Tahoe Visitor Center is important to our community, as shown by the rising number of local business referrals and people the visitor center staff has directly engaged with over the past year. In 2023-24, the staff engaged with almost 65,000 people across Tahoe City and Kings Beach, by phone, email and at events, a 21% increase over the previous year.
Approximately 130 referrals to local restaurants and retail shops, activity and other experience providers were made over the last year, totaling over 47,000 specific referrals and representing a 19% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, sales of merchandise available at the visitor center, which includes the work of local artisans who often do not have their own storefronts, increased 39% in 2023-24.
With a permanent new visitor center coming to Kings Beach in mid-August, there will be even more opportunities to engage with residents and visitors and support our local business community!

The Artist Wall displays local artists' work and rotates monthly with pieces available for purchase. The first to be featured is Rob Retting’s photography exhibition “The Art of Boats-Tahoe Woodies” showcasing a diverse collection of classic wooden boats photographed on Lake Tahoe.
In the future, the Visitor Center will also feature Mark McCullough and his story behind the naming of Kings Beach.
|
Inspiring Environmental Stewardship
The Visitor Center will also house the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center: Tahoe Science Center Annex Theater. Residents and visitors are invited to come in and watch the array of short, educational videos produced by the scientists at TERC to learn about topics such as the impacts of invasive species, changes in our watershed, the aquatic inhabitants of Lake Tahoe, the future of Tahoe’s forests, and more.
